Welcome To Rockville is officially the biggest rock festival in North America, hosting more than 200,000 people and 150 bands on 5 stages for the first time. This year, Rockville also broke records to become the largest event for festival producer Danny Wimmer Presents. Looking ahead, the May 2025 festival dates at Daytona International Speedway will be announced soon.

The 13^th Welcome To Rockville featured its most powerful collection of artists yet, including headliners Mötley Crüe & Disturbed (Thursday), Limp Bizkit & Jelly Roll (Friday), Foo Fighters & Queens of the Stone Age (Saturday) and Slipknot & Evanescence (Sunday), along with Judas Priest, Greta Van Fleet, Falling In Reverse, A Day To Remember, Breaking Benjamin, Bad Omens, The Offspring, Mudvayne, Koe Wetzel, Stone Temple Pilots, Primus, Cypress Hill, Sum 41, a rare appearance by Mr. Bungle, and many others. Welcome To Rockville brought in fans from around the U.S. and the world for the four-day destination event.

These were some of the highlights and can’t-miss moments during the festival:

    Mötley Crüe had the crowd in a frenzy with a set filled with decades of hits, along with newer tracks like the recently released, “Dogs of War.” (Thursday)

    Disturbed’s powerful show included a surprise cameo by legendary Heart vocalist Ann Wilson for a duet with David Draiman on “Don’t Tell Me,” the song they recorded together for the band’s current album. This marked the first time Wilson joined Disturbed onstage to perform the song. (Thursday)

    After his headlining set on the SiriusXM Octane Drift Stage, Jelly Roll joined Limp Bizkit for the band’s version of The Who’s “Behind Blue Eyes.” As Rolling Stone reported: “…Fred Durst told the crowd repeatedly, ‘I need an angel to come out here and save me. Drop something from the sky. I don’t care what it is, drop anything, please sweet angel. Save your brother Freddy D!’ As summoned, Jelly Roll then appeared onstage with Limp Bizkit to deliver the song’s second verse…” Later in the set, rapper Riff Raff joined Limp Bizkit on stage to perform his track “Tip Toe Wing In My Jawwdinz.” The band also brought a couple from the crowd on stage for a live gender reveal. (Friday)

    Falling In Reverse was joined by Tech N9ne and Alex Terrible from Slaughter To Prevail–who both played at the festival earlier that day–for the first-ever live performance of “Ronald (Feat. Tech N9ne And Alex Terrible),” which will appear on Falling In Reverse‘s new album. (Friday)

    Rockville fans saw the second show ever for Kerry King‘s solo band, with a set that included songs from King’s forthcoming album as well as Slayer classics. (Friday)

    Foo Fighters played a 2-hour set packed with hits, including an appearance from Mammoth WVH frontman Wolfgang Van Halen who surprised fans with a few classic Van Halen solos during Foo Fighters’ mid-show medley. (Saturday)

    Queens of the Stone Age closed out the SiriusXM Octane Drift Stage Saturday night with an epic set of fan favorites. (Saturday)

    Slipknot’s mind-blowing festival-closing set celebrated the 25th anniversary of the band’s classic self-titled album and was one of the first shows with the band’s new drummer Eloy Casagrande. (Sunday)

    Evanescence’s Sunday night SiriusXM Octane Drift Stage headlining performance marked the band’s first show in the continental U.S. this year. (Sunday)

    Sum 41 had the crowd singing along throughout their energetic set–one of the final shows ever for the group. Shortly before the band hit the stage, fans had the unique opportunity to catch a glimpse of a SpaceX rocket launch from nearby Cape Canaveral lighting up the sky behind the Vortex Stage. (Sunday)

    The Church of Rock & Roll had surprise karaoke appearances from Rockville artists each day, including John Moyer (Disturbed), Joey Belladonna (Anthrax), John Cooper (Skillet), Ash Costello (New Years Day), Devin Oliver (I See Stars), Tim Montana and more.

    Brand new onsite experiences at Rockville included the BLACKENED Burger Bar with Chef Chris Santos on the festival grounds and Just Add Milk Cereal Bar in the Rockville campground.

    During the festival, the live broadcast on Rockville Radio on SiriusXM’s Chanel 504 included music from bands on this year’s lineup, interviews, streamed sets and more. Fans can re-live the best of Welcome To Rockville on Rockville Radio via the SiriusXM app, available to stream through May 22, 2024.

BLACKENED Burger Bar: DWP has announced the debut of the Metal Burger Box at the BLACKENED Burger Bar, exclusively at Welcome To Rockville. Crafted in collaboration with BLACKENED Whiskey, renowned celebrity Chef Chris Santos, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Metallica, and Welcome To Rockville, the BLACKENED Burger Bar promises to be an extraordinary fusion of exceptional spirits, culinary innovation, and the raw energy of rock music. Featuring signature burgers that embody the spirit of rock and roll, the BLACKENED Burger Bar invites fans to embark on a culinary journey unlike any other. Each Metal Burger Box is accompanied by exclusive surprises and presented in custom packaging designed to be cherished long after the last bite. Just Add Milk Cereal Bar: Starting Thursday morning, Welcome To Rockville campers will be able to mix and match the cereals they grew up on with fresh, ice-cold Florida milk or indulge in a fresh scoop of ice cream while vintage TVs blast out Saturday morning cartoons, making it a pit stop for nostalgia and flavor-packed fun. The activation is located within the festival campgrounds by the General Store and Pit Stop #1. Milk and ice cream will be provided by Florida Dairy Farmers. All proceeds will go to Second Harvest Food Bank, who is also a beneficiary of the post-festival food donations via Musically Fed.

Danny Wimmer Presents’ “Biggest Year In Rock!” has officially kicked off, with the independent festival producer’s 2023 festival season now underway, led by DWP’s biggest event ever. Welcome To Rockville – held May 18-21 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida – brought together over 170,000 music fans across four days, marking the largest attendance ever for a DWP event. As well, the 47,000 attendees on Sunday, May 21 was also a record-breaking single day crowd for the producer. It was quickly followed by the mighty return of Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival, May 25-28 at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, with the two combined events bringing in nearly 300,000 music fans over eight days of nonstop music and entertainment.

The 2023 editions of Welcome To Rockville (the 12^th year of the event) and Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival (its first year back since 2019) have been buzzed about for months, with anticipated performances from some of rock and metal’s biggest bands and unexpected reunions. Both weekends offered memorable sets from Avenged Sevenfold – the act’s first festival appearances in five years – as well as the first shows since 2022 from Tool. As well, Sonic Temple gave fans one of the first shows back for Foo Fighters with new drummer Josh Freese taking the stage and the first show since 2020 from Queens Of The Stone Age where the band performed the live debut of new song “Emotion Sickness.” It was also the final Ohio show for rock legends KISS who are currently on their End of the Road farewell tour. Welcome To Rockville also had the first U.S. festival appearance from the new Pantera lineup (a celebration of original members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul) and an additional headlining set from metal heavyweights Slipknot.

The two packed lineups also included Deftones, Rob Zombie, Godsmack, Evanescence, Incubus, Beartooth (performing for their biggest hometown crowd ever in Columbus), The Cult, Alice Cooper, The Mars Volta, Puscifer, I Prevail, Chevelle, Coheed & Cambria, Sublime with Rome and Falling In Reverse.

Several performances featured special guests including Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford who appeared with Godsmack at Sonic Temple for a cover of “Dream On” and The Beatles’ “Come Together.” Crossover artist HARDY added to his Welcome To Rockville set with the surprise guest appearance of A Day To Remember vocalist Jeremy McKinnon, and Motionless In White invited Born Of Osiris singer Ronnie Canizaro for a guest spot in their Rockville set.

In addition to the incredible legacy acts filling out the lineup, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple were also memorable for introducing attendees to the next generation of rock with young acts like Vended, OTTTO, Bastardane and Hammerhedd wowing crowds with their high-energy performances.

In total, nearly 100 music performances took place over four days on four stages at Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple featured 75-plus acts over four days on three stages. Welcome To Rockville also offered amusement rides, a giant water slide, and art installations, while Sonic Temple pillar installations featured art from world renowned artists such as Shepard Fairey, Hazmat Design, Jim “Taz” Evans, Plastic Jesus, Electric Eye, Hydro74, Geoff May, Guerilla One and more. Both events were hosted by Jose “Metal Ambassador” Mangin who participated in on-stage appearances and fan meet and greets. Partner experiences, award-winning spirits, and delicious food and beverage options rounded out the onsite offerings.

Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple are also proud of the charitable efforts the festivals support, including: Musically Fed, which donated more than 4,000 meals in Daytona and Columbus, as well as Take Me Home, To Write Love On Her Arms, Artists For Trauma, The Taylor Foundation, Pass The Bass, Living The Dream, and FC Cancer. In addition, Nationwide Children’s Hospital – On Our Sleeves Movement For Children’s Mental Health was designated as the official charity of Sonic Temple.

Welcome To Rockville wrapped up the extended weekend at Daytona International Speedway with an eclectic alternative mix on Sunday, May 21, 2023. UK’s Nova Twins led off this day of genre-bending performances.

Angel Du$t showed their range across alternative genres.

Anti-Flag continues to build on their punk rock roots and anti-establishment attitude. They continue to release great new albums and deliver political messaging.

Filter brought decades of alt-rock credibility to the stage. Look for more new music coming later this year.

Attila packed the DWPresents camping stage with their high energy show.

Punk rock legends Pennywise just keep going strong.

After a decade away, The Mars Volta are back.

Ghostemane was the final performer on the Rockvillian third stage, hopefully proving once and for all that popular bands need a larger area to accommodate all of their fans.

Incubus lit up the Space Zebra stage with their passionate songs and heartfelt delivery.

Deftones closed down the Octane stage on Sunday night in style, as they always do.

The festival came to a close with a dynamic performance from Tool. Frontman Maynard James Keenan dressed in drag, in violation of a recently signed Florida anti-drag law, which restricts minors from attending drag shows. He apparently wasn’t intentionally protesting the law, although earlier in the day, bands such as Anti-Flag were clear in their opposition.

Tool Makes A Statement At Welcome To Rockville 2023 Day 4 first appeared on Game On Media.

Welcome To Rockville kept the party going at Daytona International Speedway with classic rock music and dedicated fans on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

It was another smoking hot day in the sun as The Violent (formerly known as Red Sun Rising) played the Octane stage. They played songs from their brand new album, which sound like sure fire hits, especially “Wrap Your Head Around”.

Dayseeker hit the Space Zebra stage dressed in full black suits as synth sounds played on tracks. A lot of people were here early for them. Vocalist Rory Rodriguez has a great voice. The crowd loved the ballad “Neon Grave”, which he wrote for his dad who passed away after battling cancer.

Hammerhedd shredded on the Rockvillian stage. These teenager brothers really know how to thrash. The singer/guitarist looks and sounds like Jason Newsted. These 3 brothers formed the band a decade ago at the ages of 9, 7 and 4. They have since quit sports and school to rawk full time and have released 2 albums.

Pop Evil took over the Octane stage, playing some new songs along with the old favorites. They were wearing their night stage outfits in the hot sun, which had to feel uncomfortable, but I suppose bands are not used to playing daytime shows in the Florida sun.

Unfortunately, Alter Bridge had to cancel last minute, due to Myles Kennedy having a respiratory infection.

Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening was next up on the Space Zebra stage. For those about to rock, when you hear AC-DC coming through the PA, you know the show is about to start. Jason thanked the crowd for allowing him to continue a 13 year thank you to the greatest rock and roll drummer of all time, his Dad John Bonham.

Suicide Silence played the Rockvillian stage, which once again was way too small of a viewing area for the massive crowd. The band had to stop and tell people to move back to make room for the wall of death pit. 30 seconds later they had to stop the show and call security for someone injured on the pavement. And then they got right back to it. This stage really should be in a bigger area on grass. This aggressive band basically screams “Fuck everything grrrrrr” and is a bit too angry. Where do you go from there?

Chevelle rocked the Octane stage in the still bright sunlight, doing their thing. So many people kept streaming in to claim their viewing spot, with Godsmack up next on this stage.

Alice Cooper still kicking ass over 50 years later at age 75. Even without all the typical stagecraft, the songs hold up. Nita Strauss is back and shredder than ever. There was a sick 3 headed guitar solo halfway thru set. The classic elements such as the snake, FrankenAlice monster, and beheading took this show to the next level.

Godsmack displayed a pyro warning about loud concussions (booms) before they dropped the curtains on an explosive show. “When Legends Rise” is the perfect concert opener. It builds up slowly and everyone gets to sing along. “1000hp” featured many fire bursts, like it wasn’t hot enough already. There was an endless supply of crowd surfers pouring down during “Cryin’ Like A Bitch!!”. The boys played 3 new songs from “Lighting Up The Sky” – “You And I”, “What About Me” and “Surrender” – which all went over well. The classic Batalla de los tambores is back, AKA the Sully Erna – Shannon Larkin drum-off. The crowd was insanely loud, screaming along to “Whatever” and “I Stand Alone”. Godsmack has been at this for 25 years, and this was one of their best shows ever.

The night ended with the Pantera tribute. Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown, Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante are touring to celebrate the legacy of metal music created by Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The grounds were packed solid all the way to the ferris wheel as they delivered 14 classic rock anthems.

Pantera, Godsmack & Alice Cooper Elevate Welcome To Rockville 2023 Day 3 first appeared on Game On Media.

Welcome To Rockville continued to fill the Daytona International Speedway with heavy music and passionate fans on Friday, May 19, 2023.

The Warning played a great set on the Space Zebra main stage. The Villarreal Vélez sisters from Mexico were dressed in white, a smart choice based on the oppressive heat during a daytime show. Lead singer Daniela even strapped on a white explorer guitar for their version of Enter Sandman, which Metallica had requested for the black album reissue. The Warning delivers a powerful sound from 3 small women.

Ayron Jones was shredding along with his boys from the Puget Sound on the Octane stage. The only thing hotter than the sun beating down on the crowd was Ayron’s hot licks. He played several new songs, along with his recent hits. Ayron told the crowd that he was there for the other outcasts, freaks and misfits. 

Badflower crushed their performance on Space Zebra main stage. They cleverly played “It’s 5:00 Somewhere” as they walked on stage a little after 5:00. Josh Katz came out in a white cutoff T-shirt which parodied himself, and a pink beanie hat. Insanely, they were only given 30 minutes, so they tore through “Don’t Hate Me”, ” Johnny Wants To Fight”, “Heroin”, “The Jester”, “Ghost”, “Stalker” and “30”. Josh roamed the pits to get close to everyone. Fans sang along to every word. It was a phenomenal show which ended far too soon. This festival could be improved with fewer artists and longer sets for the bigger acts.

Sleeping With Sirens rocked the Octane stage with their high energy squeaking, like a puppy with an annoying toy.  

Motionless In White lit up the Space Zebra main stage, quite literally, with plenty of fire, lights and videos. This was the 1st US show of 2023 for the goth metal hit makers. They recalled playing Welcome To Rockville a lot, but this was their 1st time at Daytona. Chris Cerulli exclaimed “Welcome to watch the goth band melt in the sun show!” He thanked Florida radio and SiriusXM Octane for their 1st #1 hit “Masterpiece”, which was a huge singalong. They had a guest screamer,  David Benites, on Reincarnate. They had time for 10 songs and each one got a huge reception. 

SXM host Jose Mangin had his wife Melissa Mangin introduce I Prevail on the Octane stage. Women really seem to love this band. 

Country star Hardy played the main stage. There was some controversy about having him on the lineup. It would be interesting to see if he can win people over. The band, 2 guitarists and a drummer, came out rocking to lasers. Hardy came out looking like a yoked Kid Rock, singing “Sold Out” with the massive crowd singing along. “Kill Sh!t Till I Die” went over very well in gun loving Florida. The overall vibe was country songs with alt rock music.  Hardy played a guitar for “Jack”. He told the crowd “This is our first ever rock show. We are a rock band tonight.” Some of the songs echoed Green Day in sonic tone, others were metal and thrashy. The show was all rock, with smoke and lights. They did a cool cover of “Big Empty” from Stone Temple Pilots. He played his ironic “Radio Song”, joined by Florida’s own Jeremy McKinnon of A Day To Remember. Hardy shotgunned a beer while singing “The Redneck Song”, which brought an extended “Hardy! Hardy!” chant from the crowd, and that put a huge smile on his face. He wanted to play one country song that changed his life and showed how thankful he is to live in greatest country in world. He covered Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country” which ended with another huge chant of “USA! USA! USA!” He finished with “The Mockingbird & The Crow. There was no doubt that he belonged at this festival.

Evanescence delivered the best show of the day on the Octane stage. The band’s newest member, Emma Anzai, provided angelic backing vocals and incredible bass playing. Amy Lee has so much power and emotion, even had the crowd roaring in response to an acapella whisper. Amy challenged everyone to use their voice and fight for each other and for what is right. She reminded that we are all in this together, and she hopes that love will win. For the encore, she mentioned that it has been 20 years since the “Fallen” album was released. They are still out here doing it, and having more fun than ever. Everyone sang along to “My Immortal”, and attempted to keep up with her unmatched vocal skills on “Bring Me To Life”. 

Finally, it was time for the long awaited return of Avenged Sevenfold, after 5 years away. A7x led off with a slow, weird and chaotic new song, “Game Over”. They also had a weird instagram filter on the live video screens, which looked like Thanos has snapped his fingers. Then things kicked into gear when they started “Afterlife”, which got the fans psyched. “Hail To The King” kept things moving along nicely. After that, M. Shadows noted that they have been gone awhile, and they have to get used to the energy brought by the crowd. He introduced another new song, “We Love You”, which was frankly not good. Most people were just confused. It changed tone drastically throughout, from club pulse to acoustic slide guitar and heavy breathing. It sounded like a German Nine Inch Nails song. Shadows could sense the crowd’s confusion and commented “Give it some time; you might like it some day.” 

There was a huge roar as they started playing “Buried Alive”. There’s nothing cooler than the lefty-righty back-to-back double solos from Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates. Next was a touching tribute to “The Rev” in front of “So Far Away”. Shadows reminded everyone to be in the present in the moment and enjoy the life you have today. Tell people you love them enjoy moments like this. Thousands put up their lighters and phones in tribute. 

A third new song, “Nobody”, got the best reception, with a riff reminiscent of Alice In Chains. The rest of the set was classic A7X. Despite the set being a bit short for a headliner, and Shadows admitting that the band had a ways to go in order to return to form, it was a wonderful experience all around. Not many cared about anything else but enjoying the experience of “Nightmare”, “Bat Country”, “Unholy Confessions” and “A Little Piece Of Heaven”. Welcome back!

Avenged Sevenfold Returns At Welcome To Rockville 2023 Day 2 first appeared on Game On Media.

Welcome To Rockville took over the Daytona International Speedway on Thursday, May 18, 2023 with hopes of making up for last year’s disaster when most of day 2 and 3 performances were canceled due to severe weather in the area. Gates opened at noon for the largest crowd yet, in excess of 40,000 Rockvillians ready to party.

Bloodywood, a band from New Delhi, India, kicked things into high gear on the Space Zebra main stage. They have 2 lead screamers and a nu-metal sound with some Bollywood spice. They had plenty of messages to share about standing up for yourself and doing what you believe in. At the same time, Widow 7 was playing the Rockvillain third stage located in the middle of the festival grounds. Their sound was more traditional nu-metal.

Over on the Octane second main stage, Austin Meade was delivering southern rock with a bit of a country edge. The second VIP area offered some bleacher seating, but most of that area was blocked from any view of the stage and did not have any food options. It did have a bar tent and access to permanent bathrooms. Behind that was a path to the new location for the small 4th stage. Budderside was tearing up the DWPresents stage with their radio-friendly sound, highlighted by the excellent vocal stylings of Patrick Stone.

Competing next was Brutus, a trippy Belgian outfit led by singing drummer Stefanie Mannaerts and UK punk rockers Wargasm featuring Sam Matlock and Milkie Way. Then things really kicked into gear as the heavy hitters took over the main stages. Black Stone Cherry debuted “Out Of Pocket”, a great new song from their upcoming album “Screamin’ At The Sky”. The boys from Kentucky brought the high energy and emotion that they always do and had the crowd moving and singing along to their catalog of hits. Avatar got halfway through their second song when 5:00 hit, the sound was cut and the first evacuation of Welcome To Rockville 2023 was upon us.

Everyone calmly left the speedway, hoping that history was not repeating itself. The message repeated “Severe Weather Approaching. Please Exit Festival Site. Monitor Social Media.” Fortunately, the storm cleared and the gates reopened at 6:30 with a revised schedule. The only major lineup casualty was Trivium.

The main stage kicked off at 7:15 with Bullet For My Valentine delivering a tight intense 30 minute set. Singing along to “Your Betrayal” never felt so powerful – “I was told to stay away. Those two words I can’t obey!”. This festival has too many bands and not enough stage time. The band and the crowd were ready for twice as much as they got.

Puscifer hit the Octane stage for an artistic event, complete with psychedelic video effects throughout the show.

Rivals were playing at the same time around the corner at the “camping” stage. They are similar to Spiritbox in their sound, with many songs about self-empowerment.

The Cult played the main stage, but the real event was happening on the 3rd stage. Japanese female rockers Band-Maid put on an incredible set, showcasing their substantial musical skills. Their performance was fun and upbeat and their music got thrashy at times. The lead guitarist really shreds. They deserved a main stage slot, as there were so many people trying to see them and no room for everyone.

Rob Zombie experienced technical difficulties as his stage set video screens were stuck on endless reboot. After a 15 minute delay, they came out and played with only the main large video screen behind them working. Zombie apologized and mentioned that they were wasting time fixing it and had to cut the set short, as they were “not here to fuck with Slipknot. With all of you here, we don’t need that shit.” They played what people wanted to hear and a Zombie show is always entertaining, even without full production.

The revised schedule created an unfortunate conflict with Suicidal Tendencies playing at the same time as Slipknot. Mike Muir thanked the thousands who showed up, despite the other option. Half of the crowd had not seen ST play live before, and they got a kick-ass show and mini TED talks. Suicidal is one of the best live bands you can see, and you leave ready to fight for yourself and your own beliefs.

Slipknot was allowed to play well past midnight, with track and local officials allowed the event to run late. They were as intense and explosive as they always are. All in all, it was a very successful Day 1 for Welcome To Rockville 2023.

Welcome To Rockville campers get the ultimate experience, spending five days on the festival field right in the middle of all the action and with the quickest access to all the stages. Amenities include indoor restrooms and showers, in and out privileges, and a general store for supplies. A limited number of Weekend Camping Packages are available for both car and tent and RVs. Welcome To Rockville 2021 wrapped up on Sunday November 14, 2021 at Daytona International Speedway.

Florida legends Lynyrd Skynyrd played their final “hometown” show after more than 50 years on the road.

Metallica played a completely different set list than they had played on Friday.

Metallica played the entire “Black Album” in reverse order as the center of their 2 hour set.

2021 is the 30th anniversary of their all-time classic self-titled album.

Anthrax has been playing with Metallica for 4 decades and they are still one of the best live bands around. Joey Belladonna and Scott Ian thanked the fans for the continued support and reminded them to have fun while “Caught In A Mosh”.

Mudvayne completed their special festival run of reunion shows, playing everything their fans wanted to hear.

Alien Weaponry is the top up-and-coming metal band, hailing from New Zealand and incorporating the indigenous Māori culture and language into their songs.

Mastodon continues to excel as a powerful live band.

Sunday was definitely the heaviest day of the festival, with Code Orange leading the way on the Rockvillian stage.

Goodbye June warmed up the crowd, including crowd-surfing Santa, with their soulful blues under the early warm sunshine.

Welcome to Rockville 2021 was highlighted by an incredible set from Metallica featuring hits from every album throughout their legendary career.

Rob Zombie brought his typical monster mayhem, closing out the SiriusXM Octane stage ahead of the mighty Metallica.

Metallica delivered perhaps their greatest setlist of all time, playing songs from every album, even the live and cover ones.

James Hetfield was in a great mood, joking with the crowd about how much “St. Anger” was growing on them, and that they might just play the whole thing.

Ayron Jones got the Space Zebra main stage cooking with his Seattle style blues, complete with a slick Nirvana cover of “Breed”.

Starset put on an amazing spectacle with their post-apocalyptic sci-fi set and wardrobe.

Continuing the blend of movies and music, Ice Nine Kills crushed a set full of horror movie based songs.

The highlight of the Ice Nine Kills was SiriusXM Metal Ambassador running on stage and getting stabbed by Spencer Charnas, acting out the lyrics to the brilliant “Hip To Be Scared”.

One of the greatest things about festivals is expanding your musical horizons.

California punk rock legends Social Distortion and Pennywise showed how things were done, and how much influence punk rock still has today.

The festival grounds were full of live art installations, custom guitars from Ronz World, and art created by musicians, including Carla Harvey from Butcher Babies.

Florida’s own Wage War closed out the Rockvillian stage with a bang.

Day 1 was highlighted by outstanding performances from Slipknot, Gojira, Cypress Hill and Dorothy.

Dorothy paused during her passionate set to ask for a moment of silence for the fans who died at Astroworld.

Corey Taylor also paused to remember the lost souls, and reminded the crowd that we are all one musical family. It doesn’t matter where we come from, look like or believe in. The only way to get through hard times is together.

After a very shaky fall festival season, plagued with cancellations, controversy and covid, it was a pleasure to enjoy a day in a legendary venue that was perfectly laid out and capable of hosting thousands of campers.

As the music industry looks to bring live events back to eager fans in 2021, leading independent live entertainment producer and promoter Danny Wimmer Presents is excited to announce its upcoming festival calendar for the year.  The event lineup includes the return of fan favorites Louder Than Life and Welcome To Rockville, alongside the previously announced Aftershock, and new to the DWP family, Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival.

Louder Than Life, the largest rock festival in America, will take place September 23-26, 2021 at Highland Festival Grounds at KY Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky and will be adding a Thursday night celebration event to kick off the weekend.  All current pass holders will receive admission to the newly added Thursday night kickoff celebration for free.

Welcome To Rockville will return with an expanded 4-day festival weekend that furthers its reputation as Florida’s biggest rock experience, and will move to a new weekend for 2021, November 11-14. Rockville will also have a new home, relocating to the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.  Due to the festival date change from May to November, current Welcome To Rockville ticketholders will have the opportunity to request a refund or use their passes for the upcoming November festival.  All fans who defer their passes to Rockville 2021 will receive complimentary access to the newly added 4^th day.

Danny Wimmer Presents is also pleased to announce a new partnership formed with the creators of the fan-favorite Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival. Inkcarceration is scheduled for July 23-25 at the famous Ohio State Reformatory (aka “Shawshank State Prison” from The Shawshank Redemption) in Mansfield, Ohio.

Information on band lineups, ticket information and on sale dates for Inkcarceration, Louder Than Life and Welcome To Rockville 2021 will be coming this spring.  In addition, Danny Wimmer Presents has partnered with Sixthman to conquer land and sea in 2022 with an immersive 5-day cruise and private island festival in Harvest Caye, Belize, from February 16 – 21, 2022.  More details, including lineup and reservations will be coming in the next few months.

The previously announced Aftershock, the West Coast’s Biggest Rock Festival, which has sold out for the last five consecutive years, will be bigger and better than ever, taking place October 7-10 at Discovery Park in Sacramento, California. Aftershock 2021 will be headlined by Metallica (performing two unique sets, one on Friday and one on Sunday) and My Chemical Romance (Saturday), who were both confirmed for the sold-out postponed 2020 event. The diverse Aftershock 2021 lineup will also include: Limp Bizkit, Rancid, The Offspring, Social Distortion, Rise Against, Volbeat, Machine Gun Kelly, Mastodon, Gojira, SEETHER, Parkway Drive, and many more. Festival producer Danny Wimmer Presents has released the following update about their 2020 music festivals:

There are no pre-existing guidelines for what festivals should be doing during this unprecedented time.  Like the rest of the music industry, we continue to assess new information and make the best-educated decisions possible.  We know you have been anxious for updates from us and we are at a point where we can answer many of your questions about how each of our festivals may be affected by COVID-19.

We are crushed to say that Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple are being canceled due to the governmental restrictions on mass gatherings.  We respect these directives and recognize they are in the best interest of the greater good, as well as the health and safety of our fans, musicians, partners, and staff.  Before accepting this fate, we worked really hard to try to reschedule the festivals.  Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts, venue availabilities and a number of other factors out of our control made postponing impossible.  Make no mistake, each of these festivals will return in May 2021 bigger and stronger than ever!

Let’s be perfectly clear — FULL REFUNDS will be available to everyone who has purchased passes to Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple.

In addition to offering refunds, many of you have said that you would prefer to apply your 2020 purchases towards next year or exchange your pass for another one of our 2020 festivals.   Based on your feedback, we are offering pass holders three options:

(1) Full refund

(2) Apply your pass to 2021

(3) Exchange your pass for another 2020 DWP festival

Complete details will be emailed out to our pass holders within 72 hours.

We also know that you are anxious to find out who is playing Louder Than Life, Bourbon & Beyond and Aftershock.  Please understand that here at DWP, we’ve been debating when it is appropriate to announce our lineups and put passes on sale for our remaining festivals.  Our heads say we need to hold off on these announcements until we have more certainty in the world.  But our hearts say the world needs positivity and some things to look forward to.  We’ve been paying close attention to what you are saying on our social media and two themes consistently emerge.  First, you do want something to remind you of the better days ahead.  Second, times are financially hard for all of us.

While we want nothing more than to give you the full lineups for Aftershock, Bourbon & Beyond and Louder Than Life, we just don’t feel like it’s the right time.  But we did hear you loud and clear that you want some good news.  And good news we have.  We are adding a Thursday to 2020 Louder Than Life and, are you ready . . . the newly added Thursday will be headlined by none other than Metallica.  Yes, Metallica is back!  We simply couldn’t accept that after all we’ve gone through together this year that there would be no Metallica performance East of the Mississippi.  And Metallica agrees!

To assist you in the current financial climate, all current pass holders for Louder Than Life will be given the 4th day FREE.  We are also deferring the next installment payment on the layaway plan for a month.  And we will leave open the refund option for Louder Than Life through Friday, March 27 in case you need your money back.

To try to make passes a little more affordable right now, anyone who wants to buy a pass for Louder Than Life can reserve a pass for $1 down per pass, with payments not starting until May 3 and split up evenly in May, June, July and August. 

We have also arranged for many of the bands from Sonic, Epicenter and Rockville to play at Louder Than Life and will be announcing that as soon as we feel appropriate.  Because we were not able to reschedule the Spring festivals, we want Louder Than Life to be an inclusive celebration of all of those festivals.  It’s not a perfect solution, but these are imperfect times. It is our sincere hope that we are all able to heal together with massive celebrations this Fall.

While we don’t know if this pandemic will end in time for Hometown Rising, Louder Than Life, Bourbon & Beyond or Aftershock, rest assured that all passes will be refunded in the unfortunate event that any of these festivals are prevented from happening because of COVID-19.

We want to thank you for your continued loyalty and support.  We are blessed to have such an amazing Festival Family, and together, as a community, we will get through this.  Please stay safe and look out for each other.

Dear Metallica Family,

It pains me to write this, but I have to let all of you know that I cannot make it to Sonic Temple in Columbus and Louder Than Life in Louisville this year. As part of my continuing effort to get and stay healthy, I have critical recovery events on those weekends that cannot be moved. I apologize to all of our fans who have bought tickets for these festivals. We are working with the festival promoters to provide for refunds or exchanges. My intent with this statement is saying “I apologize” to each one of you. The reality is that I have not prioritized my health in the past year of touring and I now know that my mental health comes first. That might sound like a no-brainer for most of you but I didn’t want to let the Metallica team/family down and, I alone, completely compromised myself.

Looking on the brighter side, my therapy is going well. It was absolutely necessary for me to look after my mental, physical, and spiritual health.

I want to stress that the band will play all other announced 2020 shows.

I am looking forward to getting back to playing and seeing all our great South American fans in April. And, of course, playing Epicenter in Charlotte, Welcome to Rockville in Daytona and Aftershock in Sacramento. We will still play two unique sets at each of these festivals.

Beyond 2020, I am optimistic about the blessings I have been given and what the future brings. I appreciate all the great prayers and support from everyone since I went into rehab last September. Like the moth into the flame, being human in this career has its huge challenges and can be difficult. Your understanding helps the healing.

Multiplatinum and Grammy winning bands Red Hot Chili Peppers (recently reunited with guitarist John Frusciante) and Tool have been announced as new headliners for Sonic Temple, joining Saturday’s multiplatinum, Grammy winning headliner, Slipknot for the May 15 – 17 festival at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Red Hot Chili Peppers will headline Friday, May 15 while Tool will headline Sunday, May 17.

Welcome To Rockville had its biggest year ever in 2019 with 99,000 in attendance over a sold-out weekend, May 3, 4 & 5 at Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville, FL. The 9^th annual festival featured some of the biggest names in rock, with Tool, Korn, Rob Zombie, Judas Priest,  Incubus, Evanescence, Shinedown, Bring Me The Horizon and Chevelle leading a lineup of over 50 music artists for Florida’s biggest rock experience.

The weekend began with a Thursday night pre-party headlined by Amigo The Devil, and concluded with a marquee set from Tool, which featured the debut of a pair of new songs, “Invincible” and “Descending,” the band’s first new music in 13 years. In between, Korn (Friday) and Rob Zombie (Saturday) closed out the festival’s first two nights with memorable sets that covered the span of each act’s enduring careers. Judas Priest delivered performances of rare tracks like “Out In The Cold” that they haven’t played live in 33 years. Papa Roach paid tribute to The Prodigy – originally slated to kick off their first U.S. tour in a decade at Welcome To Rockville before the untimely passing of frontman Keith Flint – with a cover of “Firestarter,” and Zakk Wylde offered a piano-led tribute to the late Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell during Black Label Society’s set. Evanescence played their first rock festival in 2 years, and The Damned Things reunited for their first performance since 2011. Up-and-coming acts Boston Manor, Badflower and Yungblud delivered high-energy sets that showcased the best of music’s emerging talent as well.

Epicenter entered its first year with an impressive audience of 80,000 converging on the purpose-built Rockingham Festival Grounds in Rockingham, NC over the course of May 10, 11 & 12. The new three-day destination festival provided a unique experience with after-hours programming plus various camping options and amenities.

The weekend kicked off with a special Campers’ Pre-Party on Thursday featuring tribute acts Nightrain and Thunderstruck, as well as the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow and local Charlotte band Killakoi. The main event featured a rousing finale from chart-topping rock act Foo Fighters, who offered an incredible two-and-a-half hour set including a special rendition of “My Hero” dedicated to frontman Dave Grohl’s mom on Mother’s Day. Korn closed out night one with a jam-packed set list of hits after a moving tribute to late young rock fan Ally, who lost her battle with cancer in late 2018 after attending previous Danny Wimmer Presents festivals through the partner organization Fxck Cancer / Dyin 2 Live Dreams Program.

Some of the other highlights of the weekend included guitar phenomenon Nita Strauss joining Evanescence for a surprise collaboration on the song “Disappear,” The Crystal Method’s special tribute to Keith Flint, the late frontman of fellow electronica act The Prodigy, the reunion of Eddie Trunk, Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine from That Metal Show during two rare sets, and after hours performances from Wilson, Hyro The Hero, and Arrested Youth.

At both Welcome To Rockville and Epicenter, guests were able to experience the Boilermaker pop-up featuring Metallica’s Blackened Whiskey and Enter Night Pilsner. Blackened, a super-premium American whiskey blend, crafted by the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and finished in the earth shattering music of Metallica, and Enter Night Pilsner, a collaboration with the rockstars of craft brewing Stone Brewing Company, came together under one roof to offer guests a one-of-kind musical festival experience.

The inaugural Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival capped off the Danny Wimmer Presents 2019 spring festival season with sold-out crowds of 120,000 at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, OH, May 17, 18 & 19. In addition to massive performances from Foo Fighters, System Of A Down,  Disturbed, Ghost, Papa Roach and Lamb of God, the weekend offered one-of-a-kind art experiences, including legendary street artist RISK, art installations, live mural painting, live screen-printing and the popular Art Tent. The SiriusXM Comedy & Spoken Word Tent presented sets from Andrew Dice Clay, Henry Rollins, Tom Morello, Craig Gass, Nadya of Pussy Riot, and more.

Foo Fighters capped off the festival with an extended set featuring special surprises including The Struts’ frontman Luke Spiller appearing alongside Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in a cover of the Queen / David Bowie song “Under Pressure” and Pauly Shore contributing to a rendition of the Foo Fighters’ “My Hero” (dedicated to the comedian’s father who had passed away over the weekend). The Cult performed several tracks from their same-named album Sonic Temple, System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian joined Tom Morello on stage for a performance of  Audioslave’s “Like A Stone” (dedicated to the late Chris Cornell on the anniversary of his passing), and Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe made a guest appearance during Gojira’s set.

Throughout all three festival weekends, lucky fans also enjoyed exclusive acoustic performances from bands including Beartooth, Fever 333, Grandson, Shvpes, Wilson and Dirty Honey during the Zippo Sessions. Attendees 21+ had their thirst quenched by a variety of beverages, including selections from the Caduceus Cellars & Merkin Vineyards Wine Garden (owned by Maynard James Keenan, co-founder of international recording acts Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer), killer cocktails at the Heavy Tiki Bar oasis, and local craft beer. Fans were also able to meet their favorite bands and receive autographs at the Monster and f.y.e. Fan Experience tents, try out the latest gear at The Music Experience tent and learn more about animal rescue Take Me Home and the Fxck Cancer / Dyin 2 Live Dreams Program.

Chicago Open Air Presents brought a massive two-day stadium show to SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, IL, just outside downtown Chicago during the weekend of May 18 & 19 with crowds of 50,000 taking in the memorable performances. Tool closed out the event with performances of brand-new songs “Invincible” and “Descending,” the band’s first new material in 13 years. System Of A Down topped things off Saturday with a high-energy headlining set, while Ghost, The Cult, Gojira, Meshuggah and In This Moment delivered captivating performances. Buzzworthy up-and-comers  Alien Weaponry and Fever 333 also proved their promising futures with their attention-grabbing appearances.

Danny Wimmer Presents Wraps Spring 2019 Festival Season With Close To 350,000 In Attendance first appeared on Game On Media.

The ninth annual Welcome To Rockville Festival expanded to 3 days in 2019, spread out across Jacksonville, Florida’s Metropolitan Park along the St John’s River. Fans were treated to eats rom the following local and regional restaurants and food trucks: Barrique, The Bread and Board, BC Taco, Brucci’s Pizza, Cely’s Filipino Cuisine, Chinchilla’s Eatz on the Streetz, Dos Vatos Tacos, Eli’s BBQ, Gouda Boys, Grumpy’s Homemade Ice Cream, Guanabana Ice Pops, Island Noodles, Mama’s Food Truck, Mojo’s BBQ, Pie Baby Wood Fired Pizza, Pele’s Wood Fire Pizza & Tuscan Kitchen, Sweet Pete’s, The Girls Gone Green Nacho Bar, Ubora Coffee, What’s The Catch Fish Tacos, and Wurstbusters Truck. Drinkers could choose from a variety of beverages, including Bud Light, Enter Night Pilsner from Metallica and Stone Brewing, Blackened American whiskey from Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and Metallica, selections from the Caduceus Cellars & Merkin Vineyards Wine Garden (owned by Maynard James Keenan, co-founder of international recording acts Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer), killer cocktails at the Heavy Tiki Bar oasis, and local craft beer, including options from world renowned Tampa-based Cigar City Brewing.

Sunday, May 5, 2019, AKA Cinco de Mayo, was Day 3 of Welcome To Rockville. The gift to patient festival goers was Tool introducing two new songs, but patience was necessary, as a massive thunder and lightning storm swept through Jacksonville, delaying the opening of gates for almost 4 hours. Unfortunately, some of the acts had to be cancelled, including The Glorious Sons, Dorothy, While She Sleeps, Shvpes, The Dirty Nil, and Hyde. Shvpes was able to put on an impressive acoustic show on the Zippo Sessions stage. The city waived the curfew once again, allowing the show to go on until midnight, featuring Tool, Incubus, Bring Me The Horizon, Papa Roach, The Struts, Meshuggah, Architects, The Interrupters, Fever 333, Reignwolf, Grandson, and Yungblud. Tool was obviously a highlight. Bring Me The Horizon brought a massive stage set and conceptual performance that was their best effort to date. Papa Roach stole the hearts of the crowd, as they always seem to do. Jacoby Shaddix even helped the busy security crew, catching one ecstatic crowd surfer and bringing her down to safety.
