Rock legends Creed brought their “Summer Of ’99” tour to the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida on Friday, September 20, 2024. 3 Doors Down provided direct support and Finger Eleven opened the show. It was a magical evening filled with stellar renditions of classic emotional songs.

Creed designed their set list to celebrate their three classic albums – My Own Prison, Human Clay and Weathered. Fans were in full voice throughout the night, as so many of these songs are deeply personal and burned into their brains. Vocalist Scott Stapp gave several long introductions to songs, pointing out their meaning to him, and encouraging people to unite, trust in God, and never give up fighting. His most inspirational talk revolved around not letting yourself or anyone else define you by your worst days. People are imperfect and make mistakes, sometimes repeatedly, but you can rise above those mistakes and continue to live the life that you want to live.

Lead guitarist Mark Tremonti was outstanding, showcasing his unique ability to play intricate beautiful melodies as well as shredding riffs and head banging guitar solos. Bassist Brian Marshall roamed the entire stage with a huge smile on his face all night. Drummer Scott Phillips was perched up high in the back, surrounded by massive video walls and plumes of fire. Tremonti, Marshall and Phillips are as tight as a live rock band can be, with their time outside of Creed spent playing in Alter Bridge. Guitarist Eric Friedman has joined the band on tour to enhance the live sound. Friedman also plays guitar in Tremonti.

Mark Tremonti gave away one of his PRS guitars midway through the set. He asked all of the fans to be as wild as possible during their performance of “What If”. He chose a young boy with crutches rocking in the pit with his father as the winner of the giveaway. It was a nice gesture, proving once again what a huge heart Mr. Tremonti possesses. Check out his work covering Frank Sinatra classics, raising money for NDSS – the National Down Syndrome Society.

Take A Chance For Charity is a new charity focused on giving artists / actors / athletes the ability to get out of their comfort zone, having the people with a platform get out of the genre they are known for to raise funds / awareness for the charity of their choice. An actor can sing, an athlete can dance, a musician can sing a song out of their musical genre – any artistic interpretation. This gives the artist the ability to do something out of the ordinary, in fact extraordinary all in the name of charity. Mark Tremonti Sings Tremonti Sinatra will be the first release for the cause, the recipient being NDSS.

Mark Tremonti has been the most prolific and creative song writer of the past 25 years. As lead guitarist and backup vocalist for Creed and Alter Bridge, he has delivered a combined 10 albums full of pure rock and roll magic. For his solo project, Tremonti, he also takes on lead vocal duties. The fifth Tremonti album, “Marching In Time”, released in 2021, showcases a maturing sound for the band, and a dramatic expansion of his vocal abilities and melodic phrasing. Unbeknownst to everyone in the rock world, Mr. Tremonti was working hard on a secret passion project, diligently studying the unique delivery of one Frank Sinatra. While “Marching In Time” benefitted greatly from this intense training, the true magic was being created behind the scenes.

Accompanied by surviving members of Sinatra’s band as well as various top-notch players, Tremonti cut 14 classics for “Tremonti Sings Sinatra”, which he gifted to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) as part of his new organization Take A Chance For Charity. 100% of the album’s proceeds will go to NDSS to help people with developmental disabilities.

Inspired by his own daughter Stella, Mark Tremonti has combined his passion for Frank Sinatra with the charitable spirit of Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, in an effort to help others living with Down Syndrome.

“For years, Iʼve loved singing along to Frankʼs songs,” Mark explains. “One night, I found an old video of him performing ʻThe Song Is Youʼ from 1944. It made me want to dive into his vocal approach. I was all in and I wanted to do something with it. When we found out about our daughter Stellaʼs Down syndrome diagnosis, the stars aligned. My obsession with Sinatra had its reason. Frank Sinatra raised more than a billion dollars for charity and that is a fact I wish the public knew more about. Beneath his cool and calm persona, he had a big heart. Doing this charity in his name was another way the stars had aligned. I decided to do this record to raise funds for families and individuals with Down syndrome. This project is the start of a new purpose that I will have for the rest of my life.”

“Tremonti Sings Sinatra” serves as the inaugural project for his new Take A Chance For Charity movement. It encourages and empowers artists, actors, athletes, and entertainers of all stripes to step into unexpected territory with a creative initiative for charity. Whether it be a football player singing country, an actor salsa dancing, or a guitar player singing Sinatra, it’s all for a great cause.

“So many talented people have other skills that their fans or followers would never expect,” he leaves off. “This is the chance to do something you’re passionate about for charity. It’s a greenlight to do whatever you want to do. It’s a win-win all around. I want people to talk about this enough to get other artists to participate,” he leaves off. “Someday, I hope I’m a little old man who raised 100 million dollars for charity. My daughter has already made everyone around her a better person. To do this for her means the world to me.”

The band is as sharp and tight as ever, with rhythm guitarist Eric Friedman, bassist Tanner Keegan and recently added drummer Ryan Bennett fleshing out the consistently brilliant songwriting of Mark Tremonti. Somehow, he continues to create new riffs, new sounds and more relatable lyrics with each offering.

With the excitement for the new album increasing and as the band gets ready to hit the road in support of their new album, Marching In TimeTREMONTI has released a live music video for the crushing album opener. The live video version of “A World Away” opens with a musical intro before switching into the driving metal riff that kicks off the upcoming album. The video was recorded live in Orlando, FL and features live vocals and instrumentation that gives fans a taste of what they can expect when TREMONTI heads out on tour.

Marching In Time is scheduled for global release on September 24 via Napalm Records and fans who pre-order the album digitally will receive instant downloads of “A World Away,” “Marching In Time” and “If Not For You.”

Watch the live video for “A World Away” HERE:

Mark Tremonti is no stranger to storytelling. Throughout his years with top-charting bands Alter Bridge and Creed, and most recently his solo band, Mark has never strayed from his love of writing memorable songs. With the upcoming fifth album, Marching In Timethe band looks to continue this trend while exploring their love for heavy music, drawing from current events from the last year to form the basis of each song. While its predecessor, A Dying Machine, was an overall concept album seeped in darker sentiments and story, the vibe of Marching In Time is different – emerging as a charging rock/metal offering that takes the listener on 12 individual journeys.

From the driving drum beat of opener “A World Away” to the epic closer “Marching In Time,” the new album is a reflective look at the world around us today. TREMONTI’s unmatched musicianship bleeds through the album, showcased on tracks like “Thrown Further,” “In One Piece” and the thought provoking “Would You Kill.” Alternatively, the band displays their softer side on pensive tracks “The Last One Of Us” and “Not Afraid to Lose.” Debut single “If Not For You” shows the evolution of the band’s sound in 2021 and the music video is a frenetic, high-energy performance video that visually compliments the single that is currently impacting at radio.

Marching In Time was produced by longtime friend and collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette – the producer Mark has worked with exclusively since 2007.

About TREMONTI:

For as explosive as Mark Tremonti’s playing may be at times, he has quietly and rather unassumingly asserted himself as one of the most pure, precise and prolific guitarists, songwriters and frontmen of the modern era. With a GRAMMY® Award, recognition at #1 on Guitar World‘s “Top 20 Best Guitarists of the Decade, and 40 million units sold between CreedAlter Bridge and his namesake solo band TREMONTI, he maintains a breakneck pace in terms of both studio output and live shows. Once again, he directly channels this workmanlike focus, rigid discipline, and relentless drive into TREMONTI’s fifth full-length offering, Marching In Time [Napalm Records], fusing uncompromising thrash-induced fret fireworks, wrecking ball grooves, and searing melodies all at once to present a definitive sonic statement.

Alter Bridge continued their Walk The Sky tour at their familiar stop at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California on February 24, 2020. They are supported on this leg by Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery and his solo band, and Deepfall.

Alter Bridge ©2020 Johnnie Crow Photos

With six outstanding albums to choose from, Alter Bridge has reached that stage where they could play for hours and you would still be able to wish they had played more songs. They played 4 songs each from their latest classic “Walk The Sky” and landmark “Blackbird”, 3 songs from “One Day Remains” and “Fortress”, and 2 songs from “AB III”. The full set list is below. This was perhaps my favorite sequencing of songs, with perfect pacing that took fans on an emotional journey.

Alter Bridge ©2020 Johnnie Crow Photos

There is perhaps no better concert experience than seeing a well-oiled machine of a band in a more intimate club or theater setting. The Wiltern offers multiple levels of standing room, balcony seating, a large stage, incredible lighting and perfect sound.

Alter Bridge ©2020 Johnnie Crow Photos

After 16 years together, Alter Bridge continues to rise in their songwriting and performances. Drummer Scott Phillips masterfully leads the group through all of their time signatures and sonic emotions. Bassist Brian Marshall is the epitome of cool, hanging back or stepping forward as the song dictates. Vocalist / guitarist Myles Kennedy just keeps getting better and better on vocals and guitar. Lead guitarist / vocalist Mark Tremonti shows his MVP status with his solos, riffs, harmony vocals and even lead vocals. This combination of musical brothers complements and enhances each other, producing one of the best live rock shows you will ever experience.

The ninth annual Welcome To Rockville Festival expanded to 3 days in 2019, spread out across Jacksonville, Florida’s Metropolitan Park along the St John’s River. Fans were treated to eats rom the following local and regional restaurants and food trucks: Barrique, The Bread and Board, BC Taco, Brucci’s Pizza, Cely’s Filipino Cuisine, Chinchilla’s Eatz on the Streetz, Dos Vatos Tacos, Eli’s BBQ, Gouda Boys, Grumpy’s Homemade Ice Cream, Guanabana Ice Pops, Island Noodles, Mama’s Food Truck, Mojo’s BBQ, Pie Baby Wood Fired Pizza, Pele’s Wood Fire Pizza & Tuscan Kitchen, Sweet Pete’s, The Girls Gone Green Nacho Bar, Ubora Coffee, What’s The Catch Fish Tacos, and Wurstbusters Truck. Drinkers could choose from a variety of beverages, including Bud Light, Enter Night Pilsner from Metallica and Stone Brewing, Blackened American whiskey from Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and Metallica, selections from the Caduceus Cellars & Merkin Vineyards Wine Garden (owned by Maynard James Keenan, co-founder of international recording acts Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer), killer cocktails at the Heavy Tiki Bar oasis, and local craft beer, including options from world renowned Tampa-based Cigar City Brewing.

Saturday, May 4, 2019 was Day 2 of Welcome To Rockville. There were no dangerous thunderstorms on this day. Instead there was plenty of sun, heat and humidity. The three stages were filled with heavy hitters all day long – Rob Zombie, Shinedown, Judas Priest, The Cult, Skillet, In This Moment, Black Label Society, Yelawolf, Tremonti, Badflower, The Damned Things, Zeal & Ardor, Wage War, Movements, Crobot, Boston Manor, Pretty Vicious, and Dead Girls Academy. Zippo also provided an acoustic stage for intimate performances from several artists. One of the day’s great highlights was Badflower killing their Zippo Session acoustically, and shortly after that tearing through an electric set. Both sets left the crowd emotionally satisfied. All of the bands put on emotional performances, but none more so than hometown heroes Shinedown. During their nightly tribute to Jacksonville’s legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd, Brent Smith brought out Ronnie Van Zant’s granddaughter as he and Zach Myers (and the loud crowd) performed ‘Simple Man’.

2018 was one of the best years in recent memory when it comes to quality album releases from some of the biggest names in hard rock. The most common theme was struggling with the past couple of years, both internally and externally, while searching for a path to better days and a hopeful future.

Most people don’t listen to music on hard media these days, but if any of you happen to have any of these on vinyl, give it a spin and let us know how much better it sounds.

Here are our 33-1/3 favorite hard rock albums of 2018.

1. Shinedown – ATTENTION ATTENTION

Not only a great collection of individual songs that grow on you as time passes, but a concept album exploring the human condition and fragile state of mind.

Best song: GET UP

2. Tremonti – A Dying Machine

On Mark Tremonti’s 4th solo album, the band is at the top of their song writing game, and Mark’s vocals are his best yet.

Best song: Bringer Of War

3. Halestorm – Vicious

Halestorm continues to elevate, expanding their style and always delivering substance. Lzzy Hale’s voice reaches insane heights on this album, full of swagger and a wink of the eye.

Best song: Do Not Disturb

4. Bullet For My Valentine – Gravity

A biting tale of betrayal and redemption, with gnarly guitars and snarling sing along choruses.

Best song: Over It

5. Adelitas Way – Live Love Life

An exploration into sound and instrumentation, with a lot of heart. A band that keeps getting better with time.

Best song: Still Hungry

6. Atreyu – In Our Wake

This album just moves you physically and emotionally, a nonstop assault on your senses.

Best song: Anger Left Behind

7. Sevendust – All I See Is War

Some bands improve with age, and Sevendust is one that keeps writing better and better songs.

Best song: God Bites His Tongue

8. Godsmack – When Legends Rise

Godsmack returned with their best work since the first two albums. Killer lyrics and a few chances vocally and musically that really pay off.

Best song: Under Your Scars

9. Like A Storm – Catacombs

If you don’t know this New Zealand band of brothers, you are missing out. Creative sounds and meaningful lyrics.

Best song: Complicated (Stitches & Scars)

10. Judas Priest – Firepower

The Metal Gods put together their best album since Painkiller, almost 3 decades ago. Shreds upon shreds, and Rob Halford just killing it.

Best song: Rising From Ruins

11. Disturbed – Evolution

Disturbed extended themselves on Evolution, exploring new sounds while addressing the lost of loved ones to addiction and depression. While not quite the grand slam that Immortalized, it is still another home run from a band who is now 7 for 7.

Best song: A Reason To Fight

12. Pop Evil – Pop Evil

Pop Evil self titled this album, fittingly so as it sums up all of the best qualities of the band. Tight musicianship, inspiring vocals and meaningful lyrics.

Best song: Be Legendary

13. All That Remains – Victim Of The New Disease

The mysterious death of founding guitarist Oli Herbert shortly before the album’s release lends an otherworldly quality to this powerful performance. The songs are full of guitars and intense vocals.

Best song: Everything’s Wrong

14. P.O.D. – Circles

P.O.D. knocks it out of the park on this one, mixing old school hip hop into their Cali vibe rock and roll.

Best song: Soundboy Killa

15. Alice In Chains – Rainier Fog

The last ones standing are still setting the bar for the Seattle sound.

Best song: Never Fade

16. Ghost – Prequelle

Perhaps the first concept album based on the Plague and the Black Death which killed off half of Europe, Prequelle is spooky, spiritual and catchy.

Best song: Dance Macabre

17. Nonpoint – X

Nonpoint continues their unique phrasing and riffing on their 10th album, another stellar effort.

Best song: Fix This

18. Red Sun Rising – Thread

Red Sun Rising continues the hit-making momentum on their second effort, proving that they will be around for a long time.

Best song: Veins

19. Parkway Drive – Reverence

This is the heaviest album on the list, and probably tops most metal lists for the year. Very aggressive, but also full of hooks.

Best song: The Void

20. Ice Nine Kills – The Silver Scream

Each song is based off of a classic horror movie, a concept that could get corny but never does here, as the tunes stand on their own and the lyrical content touches on an aspect of the movie without becoming cliff notes.

Best song: A Grave Mistake

21. Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators – Living The Dream

One of the most complete albums that Slash has delivered in some time. The Conspirators are a tight band and this sounds most like a band album, rather than a solo act.

Best song: Mind Your Manners

22. Five Finger Death Punch – And Justice For None

5FDP has a formula and they are sticking with it. Fast songs, ballads, and interesting cover songs.

Best song: When The Seasons Change

23. Breaking Benjamin – Ember

The band who practically invented the rock radio sound does it again, showcasing their immense vocal talent and musicianship.

Best song: Torn In Two

24. Three Days Grace – Outsider

Three Days Grace finally comes into its own with this version of the band, ditching the self-loathing for an optimistic view on life.

Best song: The Mountain

25. The Alarm – Equals

Legendary rebels The Alarm returned with an outstanding record, still questioning the status quo and pushing for peace.

Best song: Peace Now

26. Dorothy – 28 Days In The Valley

Dorothy Martin has one of the best bluesy rock voices that you will ever hear. This trippy album could be the soundtrack to a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Best song: Ain’t Our Time To Die

27. Jonathan Davis – Black Labyrinth

The leader of Korn has been quietly working on his solo album for years, and we finally got to experience the fruits of his labor. Very personal and very deep.

Best song: Basic Needs

28. Myles Kennedy – Year Of The Tiger

Somehow Myles Kennedy found time between Alter Bridge and Slash commitments to put out a solo album. This is all Myles, which means it is amazing.

Best song: The Great Beyond

29. Suicidal Tendencies – STill Cyco Punk After All These Years

A sort of new album, which is actually a re-recording of an old Mike Muir solo album. Doesn’t matter, it’s new to me and it is infectious.

Best song: Ain’t Gonna Get Me

30. Avatar – Avatar Country

Dilly Dilly! Avatar returned with an album exclusively about the King. Always heavy and always fun.

Best song: The King Wants You

31. Amaranthe – Helix

Amaranthe fears nothing, blending all kinds of music, with three vocalists getting into the mix.

Best song: Inferno

32. Skillet Side Dishes: Ledger – LEDGER, Fight The Fury – Still Breathing

The members of Skillet took a hiatus and produced 2 separate EP’s. Drummer/vocalist Jen Ledger put out a strong solo album, co-produced by guitarist Korey Kooper. Bassist/vocalist John Kooper got his metal on with guitarist Seth Morrison.

Best song: Not Dead Yet, My Demons

33. Greta Van Fleet – Anthem Of The Peaceful Army

Hot newcomers Greta Van Fleet, the family band with the Zeppelin sound, put out their first full album. While not as strong as their EP From The Fires, it still boasts some great tracks.

Best song: Lover, Leaver (Taker, Believer)

33-1/3. Them Evils – Rollin’ Stoned and Livin’ Free (EP)

Them Evils is a throwback rock band on the rise. This EP showcases the promise of what is to come, real rock and roll shaking our asses.

Best song: Practice What You Preach
