Thankfully there were no lightning storms forcing evacuations, which has seemed to plague so many outdoor rock festivals.

Once again, there were too many bands playing too many stages, and the concert you missed was probably as good as the concert you saw.

Between dodging raindrops and hiding under stages protecting my camera equipment, I was able to capture Butcher Babies, Adelitas Way, Powerman 5000, Mushroomhead, Starset (both acoustic and electric headliner set, complete with pyro and fireworks), Motionless In White, Skillet and Tenacious D featuring Kyle Gass and Jack Black.

The show I didn’t see included The Dead Daisies, Crowbar, Upon A Burning Body, The Word Alive, Apocalyptica, Black Veil Brides, Ice Nine Kills, Queensryche, From Ashes To New, God Forbid, Thrice, Pierce The Veil, Gwar, Pennywise, I Prevail and Slipknot.

Sion (featuring Howard Jones) and Lacuna Coil (featuring Cristina Scabbia) were late scratches, and unfortunately did not perform.

Despite days of exhaustion, muddy grounds and soaked clothing, the crowd never let up on their passion and physicality.

Tickets and campsites are already selling well for next year, proving that die hard metal fans will endure anything to experience the power of live music, and the feeling of connecting with other people who are just as mental about metal as they are. The 10th annual Monsters Of Rock Cruise (AKA MORC X) set sail from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on February 8, 2020. The Royal Caribbean ship Independence of the Seas was the home to 50 rock and roll bands, and thousands of their fans, over 5 nights at sea. Burning Rain is one of the newer bands who continue the hard rock style of the 1970’s and 80’s. They have returned with a brilliant new album in 2019 titled “Face The Music”. Both of their killer sets featured music from that release along with great songs from their previous albums.

Burning Rain was created by guitarist Doug Aldrich, who has performed with Whitesnake, Dio and The Dead Daisies, and vocalist Keith St. John, who has performed with Montrose and Kingdom Come. Their current lineup features Blas Elias from Slaughter on drums and Brad Lang from Y&T on bass. If you are a fan of blues-based rock and roll, check out Burning Rain.

THE DEAD DAISIES BREAK THE SILENCE
BAND RELEASES NEW SONG “UNSPOKEN” FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM HOLY GROUND — LISTEN
THE DEAD DAISIES have unleashed their first track “UNSPOKEN” off the forthcoming new studio album Holy Ground.
Listen to the song and watch the lyric video here:
With tours and releases around the world being postponed due to current global issues, the band felt that with such an amazing album waiting in the wings, it needed to get some new music out.
As Glenn Hughes has said for decades, “Love is the answer and music is the healer, let’s rock ‘n’ roll together.”
With Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Hughes joining the band, it’s now a leaner four-piece outfit that has brought a new urgency and vigor to their overall sound and vibe. Hughes’ primal rhythms, Deen Castronovo’s equal parts rage and prowess on the drums, the powerful and complimentary fretwork of guitar virtuoso Doug Aldrich, and the solid rhythm guitar foundation of David Lowy has elevated the band up there alongside the pantheon of legendary rock acts.
“When we started the new record with Glenn, we knew we had something very special. I’m so proud of this record, more than a lot of others I’ve played on in the past! Glenn along with Doug and David created magic on this. We hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we did recording it,” says Castronovo.
Producer Ben Grosse (Dream Theater, Marilyn Manson, Sevendust) captured the super-charged and explosive energy of the band at Studios La Fabrique in the South of France, and delivered a track with a fistful of swagger, strong hooks, and muscular vocals.
“This was one of the first songs we jammed on at Sunset Sound in Hollywood and then reworked it slightly in France, where we all hit it fresh with the benefit of a few months distance. In that process, David, Ben, everyone pursued ideas to give it a bit more of a Daisies vibe, with Glenn’s vision guiding it to a place where it has become an instant classic,” explains Aldrich.
An official release date and further album details will be revealed in due course.
Meanwhile, check out and enjoy these insightful clips from the studio here.
THE DEAD DAISIES ARE:
Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion) — Lead Vocals + Bass Guitar
Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio) — Guitar

BURNING RAIN, a hard rock band founded by guitarist extraordinaire Doug Aldrich (REVOLUTION SAINTS, THE DEAD DAISIES, EX-WHITESNAKE, DIO) and vocalist Keith St. John (MONTROSE, KINGDOM COME), released their fourth studio album, “Face the Music,” this past Friday via Frontiers Music SRL.

The video for “Midnight Train” is available to watch HERE: https://youtu.be/JXjmHNQV03M
BURNING RAIN was established in 1998 by guitarist Doug Aldrich and vocalist Keith St. John. After meeting through mutual friends, Aldrich and St. John commenced work on what would eventually become their self-titled debut album. The 1999 record established BURNING RAIN as a hungry yet seasoned group of musicians. Although the album was limited in its release, it did receive rave reviews from fans and critics alike for their take on heavy, blues-y hard rock. The following year, BURNING RAIN released the follow up, “Pleasure To Burn” which showed a matured Aldrich-St. John collaboration that gained even higher praise than the first album.
In 2001, Aldrich joined DIO and later departed in 2003 as he was approached by David Coverdale to join a newly reformed Whitesnake, while St. John joined forces with guitar legend Ronnie Montrose. While still in Whitesnake, Aldrich started working on new BURNING RAIN music, which saw the light of day in 2013 as the album “Epic Obsession”. Their third release was again met with enthusiasm from fans and critics alike. Aldrich would later leave Whitesnake and join The Dead Daisies and Revolution Saints, which left BURNING RAIN on an extended hiatus.
“Face the Music” is a blues driven hard rock record which is truly a tour-de-force. With a renewed lineup featuring the amazing Blas Elias (SLAUGHTER) on drums and bassist Brad Lang (Y&T), the album evokes the sound of the classic 70’s hard rock scene, but also stays true to the Burning Rain sound.
One thing is for certain, BURNING RAIN has made the wait for new music well worth it.
