ABOUT MINISTRY
Born in 1981 in Chicago, Ministry has been the lifetime passion project of founder Al Jourgensen, considered to be the pioneer of industrial music. In its early days, Ministry was identifiable by its heavy synth-pop material in line with the new sounds and technology that were being developed in the ‘80s. Ministry’s output began with four 12” singles on Wax Trax! Records in 1981 before the first LP With Sympathy in 1983 via Arista Records. As time progressed however, so did Ministry, quickly developing a harsher, and more stylized sound that the band soon became infamous for on seminal albums Twitch (1986), The Land of Rape and Honey (1988), and The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste (1989). With the release of Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and The Way to Suck Eggs  (1992), Ministry hit an all time high in the mainstream musical realm and received its first Grammy nomination. In total, Ministry has been nominated for a Grammy award six times. After an indefinite hiatus in 2013, Ministry’s latest album, 2018’s AmeriKKKant, continues to reflect Jourgensen’s views on the frightening state of society and politics. With the latest lineup featuring Sin Quirin and Cesar Soto on guitars, John Bechdel (Killing Joke) on keys, Derek Abrams on drums and the newly appointed Paul D’Amour (Tool) on bass, Ministry continues touring and recording in 2019 with new music and a few more surprises planned.
ABOUT AARON TANNER

His diverse client roster includes Ween, PIXIES, Explosions in the Sky, Face to Face, and pet celebs Lil BUB and Doug The Pug. Already respected as one of the finest drummers in the world, Dave Lombardo (Suicidal TendenciesDead CrossThe MisfitsMr. BungleFantômasGrip Inc., Slayer) has accomplished another longtime goal, adding film scoring to his already-massive resume.
The Cuban-American drummer’s debut film score will be showcased this weekend with the DOC NYC world premiere of director Nicholas Brennan’s Los Ultimos Frikis, an intimate documentary portrait of ZEUS, Cuba’s hard-rocking metal band, and their 30-year career spent screaming to be heard.
“When Nick told me his vision for this documentary I was immediately intrigued by the story because it could have been mine,” Lombardo says. “When he asked me to score the film, I didn’t hesitate to accept. It couldn’t have been a more perfect match for my debut at a new form of musical expression. I have been on a path of making music solely for myself and various bands for 37 years. This is for the people of my birthplace. This is for my blood and for healing.”
Los Ultimos Frikis captures an intimate portrait of ZEUS, a heavy metal band from Havana, Cuba. After fighting for two decades for the right to play their once-forbidden music, ZEUS embarks on a journey across the island for their first national tour. While on tour, the band confronts their own fragile place in the country’s shifting culture as a new generation turns to newer, sexier sounds. Returning home to Havana on the cusp of their 30th anniversary, the band comes to terms with how they’ve dedicated their lives, as the film becomes a reflection on time, art and life’s purpose.
Says director Nicholas Brennan, Los Ultimos Frikis is the culmination of a cross-border collaboration between Cuban and American filmmakers, musicians and artists who have worked together over the past decade to share this unheard story from Cuba with the world. It’s an important example for our current times of how collaboration and friendship can overcome our political differences. Partnering with Dave Lombardo on this film has been one of the pinnacles of my creative career. Dave has brought a deeply personal and creative weight to his music in this film, informed both by his Cuban roots as well our shared time together in Havana over the past few years. With the film’s original score, Dave pours his heart into the music, blending Cuban rhythms, a deeply emotional sensitivity, and his metal instincts to echo the powerful, impactful story of ZEUS as it unfolds on screen.”
The DOC NYC world premiere of Los Ultimos Frikis will take place on Sunday, November 10 at 9:20 p.m. at the SVA Theatre, located at 333 W. 23rd Street in Manhattan. For tickets, visit https://www.docnyc.net/film/los-ultimos-frikis/.

“He’s fearless. He’s funny. He’s a diehard hockey fan. I love this man. Complete original. Can’t wait to have his book on my coffee table to make company nervous.” – Bill Burr
“There have always been bands full of angst, rage, anger, drama, and theatrics. It was Ministry who first came along at the dawn of the industrial movement, who combined these things so seamlessly, that the audience was about to have its first immersive experience. Not only were the shows a visceral experience, but lyrically, Al was preaching the truth on top of the finely crafted sound of this new musical tonality of aggression and machinery. Loud and aggressive, yes, but also painstakingly put together as a symphonic experience. Al is the real deal. Who we see and hear on stage is who he is; it’s his truth that resonates with so many. Truths that make the disenfranchised feel included and truths that make the common man wish to be among the disenfranchised.” – Dave Navarro, Jane’s Addiction

About Rise Above

“I started this cause as a tribute to anyone who has lost someone. If Rise Above does something to help one person reconsider the tragic choice of suicide, then it will be the greatest success of my career.”
–Shaun Morgan
Shaun Morgan, founder and frontman of the multi-platinum selling rock band Seether, founded Rise Above in 2012 in honor of his brother who died by suicide. The Rise Above Festival which ran for 5 years in Bangor, ME was the largest suicide prevention event in the world. Morgan was honored in 2016 with the “Artistic Expression” Award from the National Council for Behavioral Health at the Awards of Excellence in Las Vegas.
About SAVE
SAVE is the leading national nonprofit suicide prevention organization working to prevent suicide through public awareness, education and training. They develop best-practice-endorsed materials used around the world and are the only national suicide prevention organization to have developed an evidence-based program for schools. They also work with suicide survivors left behind after a suicide. Led by Executive Director Dr. Dan Reidenberg, SAVE has been certified by Best Charities of America as meeting the highest standards of accountability and responsibility for nonprofits. Of the 1 million charities in the country, only 5% meet the standards and less than 2,000 have been awarded the certification seal. Shaun Morgan’s dear brother Eugene lost his life to suicide in 2007. This cause means the world to him. SAVE representatives will be on site at Exit 111 with reading materials and exclusive SAVE merchandise available to purchase, with proceeds going directly back to the life-saving work they do.

One Dude. Four Books. D.X. Ferris Has You Covered this Christmas Season!

Prolific author and aging metal dude D.X. Ferris released four books in 2018. It’s his biggest year since transitioning from entertainment writer to long-form journalist, teacher, motivational author, and comic-strip artist. Ferris is a Pittsburgh native relocated to nearby Akron, Ohio, which spawned Devo and a host of do-it-yourself heroes. He studied and interviewed creators for 20 years. Then he got in the game.
“On one hand, my work is all over the place,” says Ferris. “But they said that about Rick Rubin when he moved from the Beastie Boys to Slayer. Now he has worked with ten percent of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. A guy’s gotta have goals, you know? You can be a metalhead, a dad, and an organizational leader at the same time. Having responsibility doesn’t mean you have to be lame. In fact, the more pressure you’re under, the more you need metal.”

Read more below about the new book releases from D.X. Ferris, and get your copies at www.SlayerBooks.com and/or www.6623Press.com.

1. “Good Advice From Goodfellas: Positive Life Lessons From the Best Mob Movie.”
The beloved gangster film Goodfellas is the most quotable movie ever made. Over three decades, its status as a cultural touchstone has only grown. Ferris applies his lifetime or leadership and self-improvement experience to this unprecedented meditation on director Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece. In short, readable chapters, Ferris chronicles Goodfellas‘ creation, documents its ongoing legacy, and finds over 130 teachable moments in the movie’s greatest quotes and most unforgettable scenes.
* 320 pages. 145 chapters. 3 images, art by Nicholas Higgins. 8.5×5.5″ paperback and Kindle eBook. 65 endnotes. Paperback includes index. From 6623 Press. ISBN-10: 099759795X. Self-help.

2. “Slayer 66 & 2/3: The Jeff & Dave Years, a Metal Biography… The Post-RepentlessRemastered Edition.”
Ferris’ first book about Slayer was part of Bloomsbury’s prestigious 33 & 1/3 series. This popular full biography of the band arrived in 2013, after founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman died and drum god David Lombardo split with Slayer for the third and final time. The iconic thrash metal group announced its retirement and final tour this year. This update has six new chapters, 24 new pages, and a new look. Michael Nirenberg of the Huffington Post wrote, “This book should sit on your shelf alongside Led Zeppelin tome Hammer of the Gods and [Mötley Crüe tell-all] The Dirt.”
* 345 pages. 66 chapters. 33 photos. 11 illustrations. 6×9″ paperback & multimedia Kindle eBook. 425 endnotes. Paperback includes index. From 6623 Press. ISBN 978-0-615-92030-6 (paperback). Music biography.
3. “Christmas Sevenfold: Suburban Metal Dad, Compendium Two.”
He was a metal dude. Now he’s a metal dad. The long-running comic strip Suburban Metal Dad chronicles the daily grind of an aging hesher with a family and a mortgage to pay. So he can’t punch people. Even though very much wants to. The second Metal Dad compilation collects seven years of Christmas and holiday strips. Ferris also added new art based on classic metal images, a forward, an FAQ, a Q&A, and an essay about why the kind of guy who wrote two Slayer books still geeks out like a kid when it’s Christmas. The comic recently hit no. 800. Decibel called the first Metal Dad book, “the brilliant, beautifully paleo, lives-up-to-its-epic-title first collection of Ferris’ Cosby-by-way-of-Integrity, sweet n’ acerbic dad comedy stick figure apocalypse…. DIY masterpieces.”
* 180 pages. 180 comic strips. 12 new illustrations. 1 foreword. 1 essay. 1 FAQ. 1 Q&A. 8.5×11″ black-and-white paperback and color Kindle eBook. From 6623 Press. ISBN-10: 0997597968 * Humor/Comic Strips.

4. “The Story of Donnie Iris and the Cruisers.”
Casual radio listeners only remember Donnie Iris and the Cruisers for their 1980 hit “Ah! Leah!”, but the Pittsburgh heroes had much bigger careers. Ferris collaborated with the band for this official book, which covers 50 years of ups, downs, improbable wins, heartbreaking defeats, and unwavering friendships. Features cameos by Trent Reznor, the James Gang, Irving Azoff, Bon Jovi, Santana, and Gamble & Huff. This is a very different kind of rock & roll story. The exhaustively researched history plays like the 4-hour Tom Petty documentary mixed with the rock & roll fable That Thing You Do!. Radio legend John Gorman (WMMS) called it, “One of the great rock biographies.”
* 466 pages. 75 chapters. 106 images. Foreword by WDVE/Steel City icon Jim Krenn. 8.5×11″ paperback. 308 endnotes. Index. From Primary Recordings. Rock biography. ISBN 978-0-692-99746-8.
