Rock legends Creed brought their “Summer Of ’99” tour to the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida on Friday, September 20, 2024. 3 Doors Down provided direct support and Finger Eleven opened the show. It was a magical evening filled with stellar renditions of classic emotional songs.

Creed designed their set list to celebrate their three classic albums – My Own Prison, Human Clay and Weathered. Fans were in full voice throughout the night, as so many of these songs are deeply personal and burned into their brains. Vocalist Scott Stapp gave several long introductions to songs, pointing out their meaning to him, and encouraging people to unite, trust in God, and never give up fighting. His most inspirational talk revolved around not letting yourself or anyone else define you by your worst days. People are imperfect and make mistakes, sometimes repeatedly, but you can rise above those mistakes and continue to live the life that you want to live.

Lead guitarist Mark Tremonti was outstanding, showcasing his unique ability to play intricate beautiful melodies as well as shredding riffs and head banging guitar solos. Bassist Brian Marshall roamed the entire stage with a huge smile on his face all night. Drummer Scott Phillips was perched up high in the back, surrounded by massive video walls and plumes of fire. Tremonti, Marshall and Phillips are as tight as a live rock band can be, with their time outside of Creed spent playing in Alter Bridge. Guitarist Eric Friedman has joined the band on tour to enhance the live sound. Friedman also plays guitar in Tremonti.

Mark Tremonti gave away one of his PRS guitars midway through the set. He asked all of the fans to be as wild as possible during their performance of “What If”. He chose a young boy with crutches rocking in the pit with his father as the winner of the giveaway. It was a nice gesture, proving once again what a huge heart Mr. Tremonti possesses. Check out his work covering Frank Sinatra classics, raising money for NDSS – the National Down Syndrome Society.

Sea World Orlando is celebrating its Seven Seas Food Festival 2023, which features special food and drink options and free weekend concerts at their open-air Bayside Stadium. Scott Stapp, lead singer of rock legends Creed, performed on Sunday evening, April 30, 2023.

Stapp played a 10 song set, with a 2 song encore, encouraging the crowd to sing along throughout the night. He also shared stories about how some of the songs were written, often mentioning his family which was in attendance. At one point, his young son joined him onstage to say hello. He played songs from all four Creed albums, and one – “Survivor” – from his excellent 2019 solo album “The Space Between The Shadows”. It would have been great to hear even more from that album, as it is full of inspiring music.

Creed, and Stapp in particular, have received an incredibly unfair amount of criticism over the years. This is completely unwarranted. Creed actually saved rock radio in the late 1990’s, setting the stage for the renaissance that happened in the 2000’s. Their songs are timeless, and have been passed on to a second generation now. The crowd at Sea World sang along to everything, and Stapp even brought the music down several times to let the crowd sing a cappella. These were goose bump moments, which hit as hard emotionally on this night as they did decades ago.

Scott Stapp sounds amazing. He is a family man and appears to be healthy and happy. The rock world can only hope that Mark Tremonti can find some time in the future, between Alter Bridge, Tremonti and his Frank Sinatra tribute to support Take A Chance For Charity, to get the band back together for another album and world tour. Creed’s songs are cathartic, emotional, inspirational and beautiful. They deserve to be experienced again live in all of their glory.

Scott Stapp set list for Sea World Orlando on April 30, 2023:

  • Bullets
  • Torn
  • What If
  • Weathered
  • Overcome
  • Survivor (Scott Stapp solo song)
  • My Own Prison

encore:

  • One Last Breath

SCOTT STAPP Releases Provocative “Survivor” Visualizer

Exclusive Debut with Loudwire as the Fighter’s Anthem Rises at Radio

Grammy-winning songwriter, solo artist, and voice of CreedSCOTT STAPP has released a provocative, timely visualizer for new single, “Survivor.” Debuting today with Loudwire, the piece takes the place of a live-action video, which was cancelled to observe social distancing recommendations.

“Survivor,” went to radio in early April as the follow up to Scott’s highest-charting single since 2005 (“Purpose For Pain”). In its first week, “Survivor,” was the most-added song in America, with over 40 stations adding it to rotation and featured on SIRIUS XM’s Octane channel. By its second week, the song cracked the Top 40 and was added to Spotify’s Adrenaline Workout and Heavy Gamer playlists.

It is a fighter’s anthem that reflects the mentality Scott summoned when losing hope in his personal battles. It is a positive affirmation, a bold statement of faith, powerfully delivered.

“‘Survivor’ is about a mindset when facing adversity,” says Scott. “Holding on to faith, positive affirmation, self-realization, speaking and believing things into reality are all elements of this mentality. It’s a mindset that helps give you strength to keep fighting, enduring, and maintaining the courage to continue to fight to make it to the other side, to overcome, to win, to survive.”

The video uses imagery both personal and universal – Scott in a storm of shattered glass; an impoverished child representing the work of ChildFund International, for whom he is a spokesperson; survivors of cancer, sexual abuse, trafficking, and racial discrimination; survivors of war, the plight of the immigrant, and homeless individuals willing to work to overcome their misfortune are all referenced.  In a poignant moment, a masked citizen and the definition of “survivor” appears – “remains alive or lives through an affliction.”

Throughout the video, a muscular, caped “hero” juxtaposed amongst the imagery is a reminder that not all heroes wear capes. “All survivors are heroes,” Scott said. “If you’re working each day to overcome, through the sheer force of faith, will, and strength, you’re a survivor.”

Watch “Survivor” HERE:

Order The Space Between The Shadows, HERE
Scott’s faith, a defining aspect of his sobriety and a frequent concept in his songwriting, provides some of the strongest rally cries, “I stand here, baptized by the fire, a survivor” and “alive, ‘cause I believed.”

It’s no mystery what demons and struggles Scott is shouting at with, “you messed with a fighter,” and “how ya like me know?!” but listeners will think of their own as they apply the song to the most daily of obstacles as well as life’s more complex challenges.

“Purpose For Pain,” “Name” “Survivor” from Scott’s first album in six years, The Space Between The Shadows, have entered the Billboard Rock Top 40 chart since the album was released last July. The album itself debuted in the Top 3 and Top 10 of rock and album charts in the US and UK.

These are our Five Fave Rock Albums of 2019, with a focus on Mental Health Awareness. With many high-profile suicides and continued struggles with addiction in the music community and the country as a whole, many artists decided to open up and dig deep. Hopefully the stigma around mental health will go away, and people will be able to talk about it as something that everyone deals with, that changes from day to day the same way that physical health does. We have the deeply personal debut album from one of the most exciting bands in years. We have a unique artist baring his soul after a tragic loss. We have a legendary band who has never been afraid to expose their weaknesses. We have a rising band staring their issues straight in the eye. We have a comeback story from a man who lost his band and his family due to his addictions, but never his inner strength.

#5 – Scott Stapp – The Space Between The Shadows

#4 – Bad Wolves – N.A.T.I.O.N.

#3 – Papa Roach – Who Do You Trust?

#2 – KoRn – The Nothing

#1 – Badflower – OK, I’M SICK
