Danny Wimmer Presents’ “Biggest Year In Rock!” has officially kicked off, with the independent festival producer’s 2023 festival season now underway, led by DWP’s biggest event ever. Welcome To Rockville – held May 18-21 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida – brought together over 170,000 music fans across four days, marking the largest attendance ever for a DWP event. As well, the 47,000 attendees on Sunday, May 21 was also a record-breaking single day crowd for the producer. It was quickly followed by the mighty return of Sonic Temple Art & Music FestivalMay 25-28 at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, with the two combined events bringing in nearly 300,000 music fans over eight days of nonstop music and entertainment.

The 2023 editions of Welcome To Rockville (the 12th year of the event) and Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival (its first year back since 2019) have been buzzed about for months, with anticipated performances from some of rock and metal’s biggest bands and unexpected reunions. Both weekends offered memorable sets from Avenged Sevenfold – the act’s first festival appearances in five years – as well as the first shows since 2022 from Tool. As well, Sonic Temple gave fans one of the first shows back for Foo Fighters with new drummer Josh Freese taking the stage and the first show since 2020 from Queens Of The Stone Age where the band performed the live debut of new song “Emotion Sickness.” It was also the final Ohio show for rock legends KISS who are currently on their End of the Road farewell tour. Welcome To Rockville also had the first U.S. festival appearance from the new Pantera lineup (a celebration of original members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul) and an additional headlining set from metal heavyweights Slipknot.

The two packed lineups also included Deftones, Rob Zombie, Godsmack, Evanescence, Incubus, Beartooth (performing for their biggest hometown crowd ever in Columbus), The Cult, Alice Cooper, The Mars Volta, Puscifer, I Prevail, Chevelle, Coheed & CambriaSublime with Rome and Falling In Reverse.

Several performances featured special guests including Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford who appeared with Godsmack at Sonic Temple for a cover of “Dream On” and The Beatles’ “Come Together.” Crossover artist HARDY added to his Welcome To Rockville set with the surprise guest appearance of A Day To Remember vocalist Jeremy McKinnon, and Motionless In White invited Born Of Osiris singer Ronnie Canizaro for a guest spot in their Rockville set.

In addition to the incredible legacy acts filling out the lineup, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple were also memorable for introducing attendees to the next generation of rock with young acts like Vended, OTTTO, Bastardane and Hammerhedd wowing crowds with their high-energy performances.

In total, nearly 100 music performances took place over four days on four stages at Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple featured 75-plus acts over four days on three stages. Welcome To Rockville also offered amusement rides, a giant water slide, and art installations, while Sonic Temple pillar installations featured art from world renowned artists such as Shepard Fairey, Hazmat Design, Jim “Taz” Evans, Plastic Jesus, Electric Eye, Hydro74, Geoff May, Guerilla One and more. Both events were hosted by Jose “Metal Ambassador” Mangin who participated in on-stage appearances and fan meet and greets. Partner experiences, award-winning spirits, and delicious food and beverage options rounded out the onsite offerings.

Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple are also proud of the charitable efforts the festivals support, including: Musically Fed, which donated more than 4,000 meals in Daytona and Columbus, as well as Take Me HomeTo Write Love On Her ArmsArtists For Trauma, The Taylor Foundation, Pass The Bass, Living The Dream, and FC Cancer. In addition, Nationwide Children’s Hospital – On Our Sleeves Movement For Children’s Mental Health was designated as the official charity of Sonic Temple.

Welcome to Rockville has become the undeniable crown jewel of large-scale musical events in the Sunshine State – and arguably nationwide – and the only competition it can face would be the one coming from its own annual rise. It remains a mystery as to how the Danny Wimmer Presents team keep pulling off these massive celebrations which such level of accuracy, terrific line-ups and array of diverse option for the thousands of attendees.” — Metal Injection

Welcome To Rockville took over the Daytona International Speedway on Thursday, May 18, 2023 with hopes of making up for last year’s disaster when most of day 2 and 3 performances were canceled due to severe weather in the area. Gates opened at noon for the largest crowd yet, in excess of 40,000 Rockvillians ready to party.

WTR23 Crowd – Steve Carlos

Bloodywood, a band from New Delhi, India, kicked things into high gear on the Space Zebra main stage. They have 2 lead screamers and a nu-metal sound with some Bollywood spice. They had plenty of messages to share about standing up for yourself and doing what you believe in. At the same time, Widow 7 was playing the Rockvillain third stage located in the middle of the festival grounds. Their sound was more traditional nu-metal.

WTR23 Vended – Steve Carlos

Over on the Octane second main stage, Austin Meade was delivering southern rock with a bit of a country edge. The second VIP area offered some bleacher seating, but most of that area was blocked from any view of the stage and did not have any food options. It did have a bar tent and access to permanent bathrooms. Behind that was a path to the new location for the small 4th stage. Budderside was tearing up the DWPresents stage with their radio-friendly sound, highlighted by the excellent vocal stylings of Patrick Stone.

Competing next was Brutus, a trippy Belgian outfit led by singing drummer Stefanie Mannaerts and UK punk rockers Wargasm featuring Sam Matlock and Milkie Way. Then things really kicked into gear as the heavy hitters took over the main stages. Black Stone Cherry debuted “Out Of Pocket”, a great new song from their upcoming album “Screamin’ At The Sky”. The boys from Kentucky brought the high energy and emotion that they always do and had the crowd moving and singing along to their catalog of hits. Avatar got halfway through their second song when 5:00 hit, the sound was cut and the first evacuation of Welcome To Rockville 2023 was upon us.

Everyone calmly left the speedway, hoping that history was not repeating itself. The message repeated “Severe Weather Approaching. Please Exit Festival Site. Monitor Social Media.” Fortunately, the storm cleared and the gates reopened at 6:30 with a revised schedule. The only major lineup casualty was Trivium.

The main stage kicked off at 7:15 with Bullet For My Valentine delivering a tight intense 30 minute set. Singing along to “Your Betrayal” never felt so powerful – “I was told to stay away. Those two words I can’t obey!”. This festival has too many bands and not enough stage time. The band and the crowd were ready for twice as much as they got.

WTR23 Trivium – Nathan Zucker

Puscifer hit the Octane stage for an artistic event, complete with psychedelic video effects throughout the show.

Rivals were playing at the same time around the corner at the “camping” stage. They are similar to Spiritbox in their sound, with many songs about self-empowerment.

WTR23 Rivals – Steve Carlos

The Cult played the main stage, but the real event was happening on the 3rd stage. Japanese female rockers Band-Maid put on an incredible set, showcasing their substantial musical skills. Their performance was fun and upbeat and their music got thrashy at times. The lead guitarist really shreds. They deserved a main stage slot, as there were so many people trying to see them and no room for everyone.

WTR23 Band-Maid – Steve Carlos

Rob Zombie experienced technical difficulties as his stage set video screens were stuck on endless reboot. After a 15 minute delay, they came out and played with only the main large video screen behind them working. Zombie apologized and mentioned that they were wasting time fixing it and had to cut the set short, as they were “not here to fuck with Slipknot. With all of you here, we don’t need that shit.” They played what people wanted to hear and a Zombie show is always entertaining, even without full production.

WTR23 Rob Zombie – Lexie Alley

The revised schedule created an unfortunate conflict with Suicidal Tendencies playing at the same time as Slipknot. Mike Muir thanked the thousands who showed up, despite the other option. Half of the crowd had not seen ST play live before, and they got a kick-ass show and mini TED talks. Suicidal is one of the best live bands you can see, and you leave ready to fight for yourself and your own beliefs.

WTR23 Suicidal Tendencies – Nathan Zucker

Slipknot was allowed to play well past midnight, with track and local officials allowed the event to run late. They were as intense and explosive as they always are. All in all, it was a very successful Day 1 for Welcome To Rockville 2023.

Welcome to Rockville 2021 was highlighted by an incredible set from Metallica featuring hits from every album throughout their legendary career.

Rob Zombie by Steve Thrasher for Danny Wimmer Presents

Rob Zombie brought his typical monster mayhem, closing out the SiriusXM Octane stage ahead of the mighty Metallica.

Metallica by Tyler Church for Danny Wimmer Presents

Metallica delivered perhaps their greatest setlist of all time, playing songs from every album, even the live and cover ones.

Metallica setlist 11/12/21

James Hetfield was in a great mood, joking with the crowd about how much “St. Anger” was growing on them, and that they might just play the whole thing.

Ayron Jones by Steve Thrasher for Danny Wimmer Presents

Ayron Jones got the Space Zebra main stage cooking with his Seattle style blues, complete with a slick Nirvana cover of “Breed”.

Starset by Tyler Church for Danny Wimmer Presents

Starset put on an amazing spectacle with their post-apocalyptic sci-fi set and wardrobe.

Ice Nine Kills by Steve Thrasher for Danny Wimmer Presents

Continuing the blend of movies and music, Ice Nine Kills crushed a set full of horror movie based songs.

Jose Mangin & Ice Nine Kills by Steve Thrasher for Danny Wimmer Presents

The highlight of the Ice Nine Kills was SiriusXM Metal Ambassador running on stage and getting stabbed by Spencer Charnas, acting out the lyrics to the brilliant “Hip To Be Scared”.

Social Distortion by Steve Thrasher for Danny Wimmer Presents

One of the greatest things about festivals is expanding your musical horizons.

Pennywise by Steve Thrasher for Danny Wimmer Presents

California punk rock legends Social Distortion and Pennywise showed how things were done, and how much influence punk rock still has today.

Butcher Babies by Ana Massard for Danny Wimmer Presents

The festival grounds were full of live art installations, custom guitars from Ronz World, and art created by musicians, including Carla Harvey from Butcher Babies.

Wage War by Ana Massard for Danny Wimmer Presents

Florida’s own Wage War closed out the Rockvillian stage with a bang.

Ayron Jones by Steve Thrasher for Danny Wimmer Presents

“Long Live Rock…Celebrate The Chaos”
Up-and-coming L.A.-based hard rock duo Satellite Citi provide another taste of their anticipated full-length album with the single “Empath,” released today alongside a bold new video. Like many of Satellite Citi’s other songs that have a strong message woven throughout the lyrics and art, “Empath” is centered around the five stages of grief — Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance — and is being released during Mental Health Awareness Month to help raise awareness for this important health issue.
Get the track at Bandcamp HERE.
The band, featuring drummer/vocalist Anna Gevorkian and guitarist Shaunt Sulahian, say of the song: “We thought it was important to create a symbolic visual representation in our video, as the world is slowly crawling out of one of the darkest periods in modern history. The video ends with a shot of us staring into a mirror, which represents the responsibility that individuals have to be proactive and seek help when they are in a bad mental state. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to join the fight to end the stigma surrounding various mental illnesses that affect so many people.”
Along with the new song, Satellite Citi has released an exclusive new “Empath” T-shirt with proceeds benefitting NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). It features original artwork by Jaime Valderrama. Entitled “CHAMELEON,” it’s based on the subject of mental health and the struggles he’s overcome. The T-shirt can be purchased HERE.
Gevorkian and Sulahian are both Armenian-Americans born and raised in Los Angeles who first launched their career in 2015 with the poignant track “Rock Bottom” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. In late 2020, they returned to that important topic with the powerful song “Antibody”, featuring Crobot’s Brandon Yeagley, that premiered on Loudwire. It was dedicated to the people of Armenia and aimed to bring awareness to the latest attacks on the country beginning in late September 2020 that killed hundreds of innocent civilians and displaced thousands more.
Both “Empath” and “Antibody” are singles from Satellite Citi’s upcoming fall 2021 album Fear Tactics, which is produced by the lauded Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo, Liz Phair, Touche Amore) and features a wide range of inspiration from Black Sabbath to Muse to Halestorm. Previous singles have included “Black Magic,” “Miscommunication” and “Getaway.”
As a follow-up to their acclaimed 2018 debut EP Negative Spacethe new album will thematically center around the importance of mental health and represents the band’s own struggles of coping with fear and anxiety, that are even more permeated in today’s culture. As Huffington Post has declared of the band’s important messaging in their songs, which have also included songs devoted to LGBTQ+ youth, “Satellite Citi are on the road to delivering audiences with music that tackles important issues that our society is facing today.”
A regular fixture on the stages in their hometown of Los Angeles, Satellite Citi is joined live by two anonymous Spacewalkers on bass and guitar that further taps into the band’s curiosity of other realms and advanced life forms. The band’s name, in fact, is based off of the idea of a city, outside of our galaxy, where people communicate with their minds.
In addition to music, Anna and Shaunt love video games and writing—they are currently working on their first original sci-fi graphic novel called Spacewalker with former DC editor Jim Higgins, that will coincide with a new concept EP in 2022. Satellite Citi also has five songs featured in the recently released rock documentary Long Live Rock…Celebrate The Chaos, directed by Jonathan McHugh, that features bands such as Metallica, Korn, Slipknot, and Rob Zombie. The trailer can be viewed HERE. As well the band’s song “Getaway” is featured in the new show “The Freak Brothers.”

In the absence of new festivals to cover, GameOn.media is taking a look back at some of our favorite festivals, which we look forward to writing about and taking pictures of, just as soon as we are able to safely do so again.

Danny Wimmer Presents has become the leading producer of rock festivals in the United States, and one of their crown jewels is Monster Energy Aftershock Festival, which takes place in the fall at Discovery Park in Sacramento, the state capital of California. This event, held amongst the trees in the brilliant sunlight of the day, which fades into the cool crisp autumn evening, has become the biggest hard rock event west of the Mississippi. Fans travel from far and wide to catch up with old friends, check out the biggest legends in music, and discover the new artists which will become their favorites.

Aftershock Festival is perfectly curated to bring in the biggest acts of today, rare appearances by legends, and star-making sets by new bands. Headliners Slipknot, Tool, Blink-182, Korn, Rob Zombie, Disturbed, Shinedown, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, Avenged Sevenfold, System Of A Down, Deftones, and Slash always put on a killer performance. This fest also offers the chance for younger fans to experience legends such as Alice In Chains, Anthrax, Testament, Megadeth, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Tech N9ne and Ozzy Osbourne. You should always show up early, as you may get the chance to be introduced to rising stars like Nothing More, Volbeat, Avatar, Ghost, Fever 333, Starset, In This Moment, Badflower and Highly Suspect.

1995 was a decade where music took many interesting turns. “Alternative” wasn’t just a new genre, it was a true description of the multiple choices listeners had, as new artists emerged with unique sounds, established artists went solo, and everybody pushed musical boundaries. Glam and bubble-gum were in the rearview mirror, grunge had turned mainstream, country was going pop, and hip-hop was starting to dominate, eventually finding its way into rock and roll. 25 years ago, these albums rocked our world and continue to remain in our consciousness, and on our playlists. Here are our Five Fave 1995 25th Anniversary Albums – Male Vocals.

Foo Fighters ©2019 Johnnie Crow Photos

#5 – 311 – 311

311 launched themselves into the mainstream with their self-titled album. Although it took a while to catch fire, their unique blending of styles, including elements of hip-hop, gave them a place in rock history. Their legendary live shows continue to thrill audiences, and they have methodically added to their catalog every 2 to 3 years. The songs they are still best known for, “Down” and “All Mixed Up”, are from the “311” album.

#4 – White Zombie – Astro-Creep: 2000 – Songs of Love, Destruction and Other Synthetic Delusions of the Electric Head

Astro-Creep: 2000… is the 4th and final White Zombie album. Rob Zombie continued to great success as a solo act, and kept a handful of White Zombie songs in his live sets. The biggest (and best) of those is “More Human Than Human”, inspired by the motto of the human replicant manufacturer Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner. The album is full of quotes from old horror and cult classic films, showcasing Zombie’s artistic flair, also evident in his live extravaganzas.

#3 – Oasis – (What’s the Story) Morning Glory

Ahh, what could have been. Oasis hit the ground running with their first album, “Definitely Maybe”, and smashed through all barriers with their second, the start-to-finish classic “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory”. Lead vocalist Liam Gallagher and his brother, guitarist/vocalist Noel Gallagher were bigger than The Beatles, at least in their own mind. They instantly began living out their own “Behind The Music” episode in real time. Ego, fame, substance abuse and sibling rivalry doomed the band. Although they pressed on in various forms for another decade, they never recaptured the magic of this album.

#2 – The Smashing Pumpkins – Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

“Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” is the epic centerpiece of Billy Corgan’s career leading The Smashing Pumpkins. A 28 song, 2 hour sprawling musical landscape, an entire alternative radio station in itself. From the orchestral “Tonight, Tonight” to the brit-pop “1979”, with tons of dreamy ballads in between, no sound is left behind. The highlights for most were the grungiest, angstiest tracks – “Muzzle”, “Zero” and “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”. 25 years later, The Smashing Pumpkins are set to drop another double album.

#1 – Foo Fighters – Foo Fighters

The first Foo Fighters album is a Dave Grohl solo album, recorded in a week, with Dave playing all instruments. It was meant only as catharsis after the suicide of Kurt Cobain and the end of Nirvana, but instead it launched one of the greatest rock acts of all time. After putting a band together to tour, Foo Fighters took off and shows no signs of slowing. While this may not be their best album, it is clearly the most important, as it set the stage for what was to come, and gave Grohl the confidence to step out front. Dave Grohl can do no wrong.

Seven months into the 2020 global pandemic, and all we can do is dream about attending festivals, photographing concerts, and interviewing artists. Summer has come and gone, with no Knotfest, Ozzfest, Mayhem or Louder Than Life to satisfy our metal needs. That doesn’t mean we can’t imagine. In the meantime, GameOn.media presents Fantasy Festival Friday – a fictitious concert performed by 5 bands we wish we could watch live in person, at full volume, with all of our rock family in attendance.

On Fantasy Festival Friday #6, get ready to have your eyes and ears blown. Lights, props, costumes, masks, fire – you won’t know where to feast your eyes while your ears are bleeding. Get set for Slipknot, Rob Zombie, In This Moment, Machine Head and Beasto Blanco.

Beasto Blanco kicked things off with a bang. The band is Chuck Garric on guitars and vocals, Calico Cooper on vocals, Brother Latham on guitars, Jan LeGrow on bass and Sean Sellers on drums. They are as exciting visually as they are sonically.

Machine Head came roaring out of the gate with the 2 singles they released this spring in response to the many social issues facing our country – ‘Stop The Bleeding’ and ‘Bulletproof’. They then pulled from a 3 decade catalog of classic metal, creating a tight set that could have gone on 3 times as long. Robb Flynn has been active and vocal this year, trying to have a positive impact on people. We thank him for it.

In This Moment was up next, finally getting the chance to perform tracks from their 2020 release “Mother”. Nobody puts more into their stage presentaion than Maria Brink and ITM. The boys in black were clearly enjoying being back on the stage, and played with aggression.

Kudos to the stage crew for breaking down In This Moment’s gear and revealing Rob Zombie’s elaborate setup, all in the time it took to get a refreshing beverage from concessions. John 5, Piggy D and Ginger Fish emerged from the props, video screens and oversized characters to blaze through a ton of fun sing along grooves. Zombie is a creative genius and force of nature, who just keeps raising his own bar on performance.

If you thought that nothing could top what had already happened, Slipknot put that thought to rest. Boasting the largest band in rock and roll, and perhaps the heaviest songs as well, they are undeniably top shelf. This show featured many songs from the 2019 classic “We Are Not Your Kind”. The Maggots were going wild, with the possibility that this could be the last time they see the band live. As the set continued, they continued back through their catalog, leaving everyone satisfied.

Louder Than LifeThe World’s Largest Rock ‘N’ Roll Whiskey Festival returned to Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 27 – 29, at its new home at the Highland Festival Grounds at KY Expo Center.

Produced by premier independent festival producer Danny Wimmer PresentsLouder Than Life delivered the most spectacular music lineup since the festival began in 2014, with performances from quintessential rock band Guns N’ Roses, the return of chart-topping festival favorites Slipknot and Disturbed, a reunited Staind (in their first public performance in 5 years), GodsmackRob Zombie, Ice CubeMarilyn MansonBreaking BenjaminChevelleHalestormDropkick Murphys, In This MomentI Prevail, Deadland Ritual and many more.  In addition to more than 50 music acts on three stages, Louder Than Life featured award-winning bourbons, whiskeyspiritscraft beer, and the best food Louisville has to offer.

The centerpiece of this year’s event was Guns N’ Roses performing on Saturday night, September 28, 2019. After last year’s event was completely washed out when torrential downpours interrupted the Bourbon & Beyond Festival and destroyed the previous site’s festival grounds, the producer knew they had to deliver something special this year. There are few bands as legendary as Gn’R, and the current lineup featuring Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan resumed their global “Not In This Lifetime” tour this week after a 9 month hiatus.

The anticipation grew as fans waited for 45 minutes after the scheduled performance time, while a custom Gn’R Louder Than Life animated teaser video played on the screens. Finally a helicopter landed nearby, presumably delivering one of the most dynamic front men in rock history to the festival grounds. Minutes later, Duff McKagan walked out and began playing the intro bass line to “It’s So Easy”, as one by one the rest of the band took the stage and joined in. Frank Ferrer on the drums, Richard Fortus on rhythm guitar, Dizzy Reed on piano, Melissa Reese on keyboards, the one and only Slash on lead guitar, and finally the man, the myth, the legend – W. Axl Rose on lead vocals. The band that took the world by storm over 3 decades ago had announced their presence, middle finger to the sky.

They went on to play a full 3 hours of material, pulling from their entire catalog and splashing in some inspiring cover songs. Perhaps the most inspired was a beautifully arranged “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden. Velvet Revolver‘s “Slither” was a close second. The band sounded amazing. Axl was impressive overall, with a few moments of imperfection here and there, but let’s be real – this is live rock and roll – if you want perfection, listen to music alone in your bedroom. Guns N’ Roses is the epitome of epic grandeur, and experiencing songs such as “Coma”, “Civil War”, “Rocket Queen”, “You Could Be Mine” and “November Rain” live is all about the emotional release and shared passion. The true range of their talent and songwriting were evident when they began their encore with the classic Axl whistle on “Patience”, and ended it with the reckless abandon of “Paradise City”.

The weekend kicked off with a special Campers’ Pre-Party on Thursday featuring tribute acts Nightrain and Thunderstruck, as well as the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow and local Charlotte band Killakoi. The main event featured a rousing finale from chart-topping rock act Foo Fighters, who offered an incredible two-and-a-half hour set including a special rendition of “My Hero” dedicated to frontman Dave Grohl’s mom on Mother’s Day. Korn closed out night one with a jam-packed set list of hits after a moving tribute to late young rock fan Ally, who lost her battle with cancer in late 2018 after attending previous Danny Wimmer Presents festivals through the partner organization Fxck Cancer / Dyin 2 Live Dreams Program.

Some of the other highlights of the weekend included guitar phenomenon Nita Strauss joining Evanescence for a surprise collaboration on the song “Disappear,” The Crystal Method’s special tribute to Keith Flint, the late frontman of fellow electronica act The Prodigy, the reunion of Eddie Trunk, Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine from That Metal Show during two rare sets, and after hours performances from Wilson, Hyro The Hero, and Arrested Youth.

At both Welcome To Rockville and Epicenter, guests were able to experience the Boilermaker pop-up featuring Metallica’s Blackened Whiskey and Enter Night Pilsner. Blackened, a super-premium American whiskey blend, crafted by the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and finished in the earth shattering music of Metallica, and Enter Night Pilsner, a collaboration with the rockstars of craft brewing Stone Brewing Company, came together under one roof to offer guests a one-of-kind musical festival experience.

Epicenter sponsors included: Monster Energy, f.y.e., Fxck Cancer, Zippo, Jack Daniel’s, The Music Experience, Sweetwater Studios, USMC, Zyn, Four Saints Brewing and Hugger Mugger Brewing.

The ninth annual Welcome To Rockville Festival expanded to 3 days in 2019, spread out across Jacksonville, Florida’s Metropolitan Park along the St John’s River. Fans were treated to eats rom the following local and regional restaurants and food trucks: Barrique, The Bread and Board, BC Taco, Brucci’s Pizza, Cely’s Filipino Cuisine, Chinchilla’s Eatz on the Streetz, Dos Vatos Tacos, Eli’s BBQ, Gouda Boys, Grumpy’s Homemade Ice Cream, Guanabana Ice Pops, Island Noodles, Mama’s Food Truck, Mojo’s BBQ, Pie Baby Wood Fired Pizza, Pele’s Wood Fire Pizza & Tuscan Kitchen, Sweet Pete’s, The Girls Gone Green Nacho Bar, Ubora Coffee, What’s The Catch Fish Tacos, and Wurstbusters Truck. Drinkers could choose from a variety of beverages, including Bud Light, Enter Night Pilsner from Metallica and Stone Brewing, Blackened American whiskey from Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and Metallica, selections from the Caduceus Cellars & Merkin Vineyards Wine Garden (owned by Maynard James Keenan, co-founder of international recording acts Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer), killer cocktails at the Heavy Tiki Bar oasis, and local craft beer, including options from world renowned Tampa-based Cigar City Brewing.

Saturday, May 4, 2019 was Day 2 of Welcome To Rockville. There were no dangerous thunderstorms on this day. Instead there was plenty of sun, heat and humidity. The three stages were filled with heavy hitters all day long – Rob Zombie, Shinedown, Judas Priest, The Cult, Skillet, In This Moment, Black Label Society, Yelawolf, Tremonti, Badflower, The Damned Things, Zeal & Ardor, Wage War, Movements, Crobot, Boston Manor, Pretty Vicious, and Dead Girls Academy. Zippo also provided an acoustic stage for intimate performances from several artists. One of the day’s great highlights was Badflower killing their Zippo Session acoustically, and shortly after that tearing through an electric set. Both sets left the crowd emotionally satisfied. All of the bands put on emotional performances, but none more so than hometown heroes Shinedown. During their nightly tribute to Jacksonville’s legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd, Brent Smith brought out Ronnie Van Zant’s granddaughter as he and Zach Myers (and the loud crowd) performed ‘Simple Man’.

It was the place to be, and a helluva way to ring in the New Year–a mind-blowing extravaganza with the titans of heavy music delivering one spectacular set after another, complete with massive eye-popping productions. The first-ever OZZFEST New Year’s Eve celebration (Monday, December 31) at The Forum in Los Angeles was all this and more, adding up to one of the most memorable OZZFESTs ever.
The day-into-night event featured 10 hours of live music that culminated with a 90-minute career-spanning set from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy® Award-winning singer, songwriter and festival namesake OZZY OSBOURNE. The afternoon kicked off with sets from Zakk Sabbath, DevilDriver and Wednesday 13 on the outdoor stage before moving indoors. The main stage was lit up by performances from OZZFEST alumni Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, and Jonathan Davis (of Korn)and Body Count featuring Ice-T (in their OZZFEST debut) before OSBOURNE and his band (longtime collaborators  Zakk Wylde [Guitar], Blasko [Bass], Tommy Clufetos [Drums] and Adam Wakeman [Keyboards]) took to the stage at 11:30 PM, counting down to the new year with a mega mirror ball, confetti storm, fake snow blasts and huge balloon drop. The Forum will never be the same again.

Here’s some early press reaction
“Ozzy Osbourne rang in 2019 with a number of his friends as part of Ozzfest New Year’s Eve…Those friends included Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Jonathan Davis, and more…Ozzy and the crowd rang in the new year with a countdown, a giant disco ball, and confetti.”
–Heavy Consequence, 1-1-19
“Ozzfest has taken many forms over the years, but on December 31, 2018 it served as a way send out 2018 with a major location-based event and ring in 2019 with some of rock and metal’s finest throwing a bash to remember. Ozzy Osbourne…returned to the concert stage at the Forum full of energy and ready to count down the final minutes of the year. But before that, a stellar lineup rocked fans inside and outdoors at the Forum during a brisk but sunny afternoon…”
–Loudwire, 1-1-19
“Ozzy Osbourne rang in the new year in Los Angeles, headlining the festival he founded, Ozzfest, at the Forum. The one-off show kicked off early, with the venue grounds transformed into a holiday wonderland complete with food trucks and an outdoor stage… Ozzy’s set included such classics as “Mama I’m Coming Home,” “Crazy Train,” and “No More Tears” as well as Black Sabbath hits “War Pigs,” and “Fairies Wear Boots.” He paused the show at a few minutes shy of midnight for the final countdown, and rang in 2019 with red fireworks and a shower of Ozzy-branded confetti.

JOHN 5 adds that his new album will feature a very special guest. He says, “My new album will be out this coming summer, and will feature a very secret, special guest that I will reveal in the coming weeks. Up first, on February 1, we’ll release the next music video for the track “Crank It”. Then, on March 1, we’ll release the video sequel to “Zoinks!”, for the track entitled “I Am John 5”. This video, like “Zoinks!”, will also be animated and directed by Brett Boggs.”
