Alien Weaponry proved that they are a force to be reckoned with, turning a packed Soda Bar in San Diego, California into a swirling, chanting pit of metallic fury on Saturday night, October 19, 2019.

Alien weaponry are a three piece “Te Reo” metal band. Many of their songs are in New Zealand’s native language “Te Reo Māori”, using chants combined with English lyrics. They led the crowd through several chants, which they were eager to do in order to become part of the show.

The band consists of Henry de Jong (drums), Lewis de Jong (guitars, vocals), and Ethan Trembath (bass). All three members have Māori ancestry. Lewis laughingly informed the crowd that several members were not even old enough to be inside of an American bar, so they would be hanging out in the alley out back after the show.

Alien Weaponry is on a fast track to success, with a buzz that has the metal community talking about and banging heads to this talented young trio. They completely owned this show, creating mosh pits and mosh walls on demand. Every song went over well, whether it had been heard before or not. After a sweaty, aggressive hour long set, everyone only wanted more.

San Diego rockers QUOR opened the show and had the fans thrashing from the first note. With the tiny bar completely full, bassist Doug Smith was forced to set up right in the crowd, due to a combination of his height and a short stage ceiling. Small club shows are always intimate, but this was about as close as you can get. After their set, the place was primed for the primal energy of Alien Weaponry.
