The Blue Ridge Rock Festival tried to recover from a confusing and frustrating Day 1, hoping to do a better job of transporting fans from the day parking lot 5 miles away, on a couple dozen school buses, to the campgrounds near the Virginia International Raceway in rural Alton, Virginia on September 8, 2023.

It was a very hot and humid day, and any rain and mud that had come the day before had dried up. On this day, the only focus was to move between stages, stay hydrated, and rock out. Ben Wells, guitarist for Black Stone Cherry, had a tribute to Jimmy Buffett painted on his amps – a fitting nod to an entertainer who helped create the festival friends vibe, which continues to bring people together, across all genres of music.

The day was owned by Motionless In White, returning for their 3rd year in a row, playing a night-time slot on the Monster Energy Main Stage. They played to the largest crowd ever witnessed at Blue Ridge Rock Festival (possibly so large as to violate their permit) and everyone shined their lights and sang along to “Another Life”, prompting Chris Motionless to take the time to share the band’s appreciation for the fans demanding that they return and perform at night on the main stage. It was a truly special performance from a band that continues to elevate.

The Monster Energy Main Stage had it all going on that Friday. Sudden star Oliver Anthony from Virginia kicked it off with a short set. Demun Jones, Crown The Empire and Trustcompany braved the heat early in the day. Next up was reunion time, with Coal Chamber and Flyleaf with Lacey Sturm delighting their long time fans with superb performances. Slipknot finished off the long day with a brutal performance that had exhausted festival goers re-energized and in constant motion.

The Zyn Main Stage had a wide variety of acts on Day 2. It went from the country rock sounds of Struggle Jennings and Black Stone Cherry to the hardcore strains from Of Mice & Men, Knocked Loose, Danzig and fan favorite Sleep Token, whose unique sound and stage show had them stand apart from everyone else performing that day.

The Famous Monsters stage was a constant swirl of activity, with mosh pits and crowd surfing throughout the day. The lineup was straight up heavy and aggressive. Angelmaker, Upon A Burning Body, Chelsea Grin, The Acacia Strain, After The Burial, The Black Dahlia Murder, Job For A Cowboy and Lorna Shore tore up that stage. It was so hard core, I got a concussion and head bruise leaving the photo pit, after walking into the video screen. Oh well, our scars remind us that the past is real.

The Smartpunk Records stage also had a diverse lineup. Standouts included Afterlife, Electric Callboy, VV, Testament and Polyphia.

Los Angeles Alt-Metal Band GEMINI SYNDROME will be performing at

Blue Ridge Rock Festival

on September 10, 2021

Following their successful summer tour throughout the U.S., Los Angeles alternative metal band Gemini Syndrome will be performing at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival. Says vocalist Aaron Nordstrom. “After all that the world has been through, it will be nice to be part of the communion of synners once again. See you all soon!”
Gemini Syndrome (c) Johnnie Crow Photos
Drummer Brian Steele Medina continues, “It’s great to get back out and visit with our brothers and sisters again. Now more than ever we could all use music and human contact to balance out the pandemic, murder hornets & Pentagon UFO videos.”
Gemini Syndrome (c) Johnnie Crow Photos
LA alternative metal band GEMINI SYNDROME released their new digital single “Broken Reflection” on August 27, 2021. The song is taken is from their recently announced new studio album 3rd Degree – The Raising which will be released worldwide on October 15, 2021 via Century Media. Purchase/stream the track HERE.
“‘Broken Reflection’ focuses on the concept of Indra’s net. Basically saying that every consciousness is a crystal in a net or web and they all reflect the reflections from all the other crystals,” states GEMINI SYNDROME vocalist Aaron Nordstrom. “The thing about mirrors is, they don’t always reflect the image back exactly the way it appears. Sometimes the mirror can alter what you’re experiencing versus what’s actually there. ‘Broken Reflection’ is a state of being in a sense. We are all trying to show the best versions of ourselves, but we need to master those versions inside before we can present the perfect image and not have it be confused for something illusory.”
Gemini Syndrome (c) Johnnie Crow Photos
“Generation after generation we build an ever growing structure higher and higher upon itself. Are we building it on a solid foundation or not is the question. Are we building towards something better? Or are we slowly building a faulty structure that is doomed to collapse?” adds drummer Brian Steele Medina on “Broken Reflection”’s deeper meaning. “It’s the idea that we can take everything given to us in this world: Education, Tradition, Religion, Politics, the entire structure of society, and we can do it all right down to the smallest detail, and yet, still not be fulfilled. It’s the idea that ultimately, the only way to live a life of purpose, is to follow our internal compass and forge our own way.”
GEMINI SYNDROME recently announced that their new studio album 3rd Degree – The Raising will be released worldwide on October 15, 2021 via Century Media. Special pre-order album configurations (limited edition vinyl, deluxe CD sets, etc) along with special merchandise are available now via the band’s official website: www.GeminiSyndrome.com Save, or pre-order the album digitally HERE.
3rd Degree – The Raising is the long awaited, mind bending final chapter of GEMINI SYNDROME’s debut trilogy of albums; the first being 2013’s Lux, and the second being 2016’s Memento Mori (which hit #1 on Billboard Heatseakers Album Chart and spawned five singles). But whereas those first two albums dealt with the painful struggles of life and death, 3rd Degree – The Raising celebrates the extreme rituals of rebirth. Produced by Matt Good (Asking Alexandria, Memphis May Fire, Hollywood Undead) this is undeniably the heaviest, and darkest album of the band’s career; featuring the singles “Die With Me,” “IDK,” “Abandoned,” “Broken Reflection” and “Reintegration.”
“The album is about death and rebirth. Finding your true self and fostering its growth so as to help build the world better than we inherited it,” says Nordstrom. “In the process of this record I made some major life choices. Mainly to stop killing myself slowly with alcohol. Two years without a drink, and a couple near death experiences later, I think I have ample experience to talk about a subject as elusive as death.”
Gemini Syndrome (c) Johnnie Crow Photos
Drummer Brian Steele Medina adds, “The twist to the 3rd and ‘final’ degree, is that it’s not the end at all. Rather, it’s a rebirth contingent upon our growth and lessons learned from the suffering of our past mistakes. A spiritual growth that can only be attained through baptism by fire. A metaphorical, yet very real resurrection — THE RAISING.”
Gemini Syndrome (c) Johnnie Crow Photos
Nordstrom continues, “Our hope is that through sharing our experiences, lessons learned, and battles overcome, that we can help others to examine their own consciousness. Their role in the world in its almost infinite capacity, and to help remind each other that we are ALL in this together. We are a family, and when we are United in our commonality, we can achieve things worthy of the attention of the GODS. If you want to change the world, quietly go to work on yourself.”
GEMINI SYNDROME spent the better part of 2018-2019 writing 3rd Degree – The Raising, the final installment of their long planned three album trilogy. They retreated to Brian Steele Medina’s Las Vegas home studio, where they meticulously crafted song after song, relentlessly reworking and rearranging the musical arrangements until they were fully satisfied. After an exhaustive writing process, GEMINI SYNDROME relocated to Good Sounds Studio in Tempe, AZ, where producer Matt Good would help realize the collection of songs. Medina recalls, “We absolutely loved working with Matt and he completely understood where we wanted to take this album creatively and what it was going to take to bring the third chapter of this trilogy to light. Our actual collective blood, sweat and tears went into its creation.”
Gemini Syndrome (c) Johnnie Crow Photos
“It was a long, treacherous road to get here,” continues Nordstrom. “First working out an insane amount of songs before arriving in Arizona to record with Matt Good, and then writing a slew more while in the actual recording process, we approached this album with high intentions to evolve musically and internally as people. But then, once we had finally finished everything, and were ready to start releasing new music… everything was put on hold due to the global pandemic.”
Gemini Syndrome (c) Johnnie Crow Photos
Medina adds, “These past few years have definitely been an exercise in patience and acceptance. We had everything mixed and mastered and ready to go in early 2020 before everything shut down. We’re just stoked to FINALLY put this album out and get this post plague show on the road.”
3rd Degree – The Raising is the first album to feature guitarist “Meegs” Rascón (formerly of Coal Chamber).
To date, five singles have been released from 3rd Degree – The Raising: “Abandoned,” “Reintegration,” “IDK,” “Broken Reflection” and the currently Top 30 Active Rock Radio hit “Die With Me.” Currently four of the five singles feature visually stunning videos created by director Brian Cox (Bring Me The Horizon, The Struts, Starset).
Gemini Syndrome (c) Johnnie Crow Photos
GEMINI SYNDROME is Aaron Nordstrom (vocals, keyboards), Brian Steele Medina (drums, programming), Alessandro “AP” Paveri (bass), Meegs Rascón (guitar) and Nicholas Paul Arnold (touring guitar).

More on Static-X and DevilDriver:
STATIC-X‘s highly-anticipated Wisconsin Death Trip 20th Anniversary Tour not only celebrates the 20th anniversary of the band’s platinum selling debut, Wisconsin Death Trip, but also serves as a touring memorial for their late lead singer, Wayne Static. The original STATIC-X lineup introduced on their 1999 platinum-selling debut full-length album – bassist Tony Campos, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and drummer Ken Jay – have recruited a mysterious, unnamed vocalist for the tour. For a preview of STATIC-X performing the band’s cult classic “Bled for Days” with the new vocalist, watch this:
STATIC-X is currently putting the finishing touches on their seventh studio album, entitled Project Regeneration. The album will feature 12 brand new STATIC-X tracks and contains several vocal performances and musical compositions by Wayne Static, along with a handful of high-profile guest vocal contributions.
Globally renowned, chart-topping band DEVILDRIVER may be one of the most notable groups in metal, but their personal taste in music reaches far beyond heavy music. Thanks to widely lauded albums like 2005’s epoch-shredding The Fury Of Our Maker’s Hand, 2011’s ante-upping, ultra-brutal Beast and 2016’s acclaimed career peak Trust No One, the band – led by iconic vocalist Dez Fafara – are firmly established as one of the most consistent and best loved bands in modern metal. That said, all expectations of who and what DEVILDRIVER had become were torched with the release of last year’s Outlaws ‘Til The End, which was a startling curveball and a ferocious statement of individuality from a band who have been a constant and effective force in the heavy metal world for the best part of two decades now.
Returning to their metal roots, DEVILDRIVER is embarking on a co-headline tour with the legendary Static-X, where the band – for the first time in their history – plans to throw in tracks from DEVILDRIVER vocalist Dez Farfara’s seminal band Coal Chamber.

Brand New STATIC-X Album, Project Regeneration, Coming Soon
As teased late last year, STATIC-X will head out on their highly-anticipated Wisconsin Death Trip 20th Anniversary tour this summer, which will also serve as a memorial tribute to late vocalist Wayne Static. The tour will feature co-headliners and metal giants DevilDriver, and will also feature support from heavy mainstays Dope. The tour will begin in Tempe, AZ on June 18 and will visit over a month’s-worth of cities, coming to an end in Las Vegas, NV on July 27.
Tickets will go on sale via individual venues this Friday (pre-sale begins tomorrow). Meet & greets are available now via www.Static-X.org and www.DevilDriver.com. See below for all dates.
“Our intention is to pay ultimate respect to Wayne and to celebrate the music that has been in all of our hearts for more than 20 years,” says bassist Tony Campos. “It’s all about channeling the vibe from 1999 to the best of our ability and playing those classic STATIC-X songs live and loud.”
“Rehearsals have been awesome,” adds guitarist Koichi Fukuda. “The music and the vocals are sounding really great! I feel like Wayne would be proud.”
In celebration of this announcement, STATIC-X have revealed an exclusive promotional video for the tour, including a brand new clip of the band performing a newly-recorded version of their hit song “Push It”, featuring an unidentified vocalist. Watch here: https://youtu.be/7Kya89wzOlc
“We understand that people are naturally going to want to know more about who is singing,”says drummer Ken Jay. “We have discussed this at great length and we came to the conclusion that at this time, it would be inappropriate for us to put the focus on anyone other than Wayne, Tony, Koichi and myself. It feels like the best way for us to celebrate Wayne’s legacy, along with the 20th anniversary of Wisconsin Death Trip, with all of our fans.”

DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara says, “For those who don’t know, I am the one who first discovered STATIC-X back in the day in a small club in front of about 40 people! From that moment forward, I was and have always been a fan of what they do. It’s unique and will always hold a special place musically for me.

Co-headlining this first memorial tour is not only a way to pay homage to Wayne, but something I’m very excited to do. STATIC-X will be closing the show each night out of respect for Wayne. I’ll be there nightly, side stage, watching the unit do their thing with a big smile. I hope that Wayne will be there in spirit, watching as his brothers pay respect by bringing this music back to the fans that made the band so massive! I know he would have loved this!

Don’t miss out and grab tickets before these dates sell out! DevilDriver will have a full headlining set and we are throwing in some “surprises”, so get ready to get LOCO! If there was ever a time for me to break out Coal Chamber tracks, this would be the tour to do it on… we will also add new stuff from DevilDriver before our double record comes out in late summer! Come join us for the summer tour of a lifetime!”
On this tour, support artist Dope will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed debut album, Felons and Revolutionaries“We are super excited to be part of this tour,” says Edsel Dope. Dope and STATIC-X played hundreds of shows together back in 1999 and 2000, so it’s an honor to be able to run it back 20 years later.”

As announced, the original STATIC-X lineup introduced on their 1999 platinum-selling debut full-length album, Wisconsin Death Trip – bassist Tony Campos, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and drummer Ken Jay – have joined forces once again to release a new album, Project Regeneration. More information on the release of the new album will be revealed in the coming weeks.
For Project Regeneration, the band has cultivated a treasure chest of vocal performances and musical compositions left behind by Wayne. Along with the help of STATIC-X‘s long-time producer Ulrich Wild, the band is in the process of completing their seventh studio album, which will feature between 12 and 15 brand new STATIC-X tracks.
Check out a new teaser featuring clips from a brand new music video, as well as five new STATIC-X tracks – “Road To Hell”, “Something Of My Own”, “Terminator Oscillator”, “Hollow” and “Disco Otsego” – along with a personal message from bassist Tony Campos about the inspiration behind Project Regeneration now at www.static-x.org.
For the unfinished tracks, the band is inviting several of their friends to lend their voices for the completion of this very personal project. The guest vocalist curation process is being led by none other than SiriusXM programming pioneer Jose Mangin, who is working alongside the band as one of the executive producers for Project Regeneration.
STATIC-X has created a pre-order campaign allowing fans who purchase Project Regenerationin advance to have their name appear in the liner notes of the new album. Additional special pre-order package options are also available, including Project Regeneration merch bundles and several old school STATIC-X merch items to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Wisconsin Death Trip.  Pre-orders are available via www.static-x.org.
