Late One Night, Jake Luhrs, lead vocalist for hard rock band August Burns Red, Sat Outside The Chicago House Of Blues…

Stories of addiction, depression, self-harm, heartache, war, fear, and hopelessness echoed in his mind.

Every night, a fan would share a different story.

Although Jake was the well-recognized frontman of the world-famous metal band, August Burns Red, he was at a loss for how to help.

He wasn’t a mental health specialist and he screamed into a mic for a living. Not exactly the picture of expertise his fans needed.

Deep in thought and prayer, all Jake knew was…

Something Had To Change.

Our goal with HeartSupport fest is to create a high-energy festival experience that highlights our core values of diversity, acceptance, inclusion, self-love and self-care, and mental health as priority.”

DWP has always considered Louisville home, so to be able to bring America’s Biggest Rock Festival back in 2021 means everything to us. After a year filled with challenge after challenge, we worked incredibly hard to curate a lineup worth the wait for our fans,” says Danny Wimmer, founder of Danny Wimmer Presents. “Weather got in the way of Nine Inch Nails in 2018, the pandemic derailed our plans for two big Metallica sets in 2020 – so to have them both back for 2021, along with KORN and the rest of this incredible lineup over four days, that’s the kind of ‘new normal’ that we’re all looking forward to.”

“This tour is an actual dream to be a part of,” says frontman Josh Scogin. “Helmet is single-handedly one of the main reasons I wanted to start a band in the first place. So the ability to watch them play every night is going to be rad. ’68 will kick off this epic run on August 29, 2020, in Camden, NJ at the BB&T Pavilion and wrap things up on September 17, 2020, in St. Louis at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre with noteworthy performances at venues like PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey and Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Josh Scogin and Nikko Yamada, AKA ’68 have put the finishing touches on their all-new third LP titled Give One Take One, and plan to release it later this year via Cooking Vinyl. Already named one of Alternative Press’ “40 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2020” and produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Deftones, Alice In Chains) at Rock Falcon Studio in Nashville, this will serve as the highly anticipated full-legnth follow up to Two Parts Viper. Released in 2017, Two Parts Viper debuted in Billboard Heatseekers Top 5 (U.S.) and received its fair share of critical praise.

Kerrang! stated the duo “twists the lo-fi fuzz into jarring alt.rock shapes, as Josh [Scogin] continues to serve up the deliciously unexpected.” Exclaim! called it “lyrical, groovy, poignant, unimpeded and, above all else, creative.” Finally, Alternative Press said it “Brings the noise in the most righteous ways.”

Swedish heavy metal band Avatar kicked off Rocktober at The Observatory North Park in San Diego, California on October 2, 2019. The Observatory is such a great venue, not only as a classic theatre with its ornate stage and decor, but also with it’s acoustic sound, which yielded a perfect mosh up with Avatar’s heavy metal head banging and their theatrical performances.

Two Frenchmen, Inspector Cluzo, and ’68, two guys from Atlanta, GA, were openers for the night. They are two of several hand-picked bands to showcase what Avatar thinks deserves more “eyes and ears” according to Johannes Eckerström. Both bands in double force threw out heavy metal mixed with theatrical energetic performances alike, getting the audience Avatar ready. Inspector Cluzo combined performances using multiple instruments with stand-up comedy, giving something many had not witnessed before.  ‘68 had a simple stage with 2 signs set up on the stage that said “Rock And Roll Is Here To Stay” … message received loud and clear by the audience as they jammed while wearing business suits and then shook hands like professionals… both staying classy in San Diego! Both of these bands are simple duos with a guitarist and drummer sharing a similarity of rock and roll at their cores with complex yet soulful heavy metal mixed in. ‘68 ended their set saying… “Smells like a freak show, but everyone looks great!”

Avatar opened their set with their usual head banging theatrics with song, “Hail the Apocalypse.” For greater good and sisterhood, Johannes professed, “everyone of all ages are welcome in Avatar Country”… and all were represented in San Diego, from young to old. The stage presence was intriguing with Johannes acting as a devilish composer, leading and composing his band with their instruments and theatrics. Avatar’s performance was on fire, especially when they performed “Let It Burn”.

According to Johannes, Avatar Country is all about them bringing loud and heavy metal times to people — filling the place between good and bad times with light and dark. Avatar Country was released in 2018 and they kicked off their Avatar 2019 World Tour starting at the Domination 2019 in Mexico City on May 3, 2019 and then a lengthy concert tour to follow through major and mid-sized cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Johannes told the audience that they are currently on tour with Babymetal, but while on a tour break, “shows like tonight” are Avatar’s “bread and butter.”

This show at the iconic Observatory in San Diego was the last headline show of this tour so it was a special night putting this baby to rest with a full out head banging performance! This was the last visit to Avatar Country on stage as the band will be heading back to the studio in 2020 with promises to do their very best as they appreciate their fan base… Johannes said “we will be going to new dark places” and the air was vibing with this excitement of closure and future plans.

The night at the Observatory was like a night at the Opera and Avatar’s theatrics coupled with lights booming, heavy beats, heads banging, and bubbles, yes bubbles, was not only a show, but the dance arena Avatar wanted the Observatory to morph into. Fans and Avatar alike were engaged and in it to the very end. At the end of the night, Johannes told the audience in a heartfelt speech that the Avatar Country World Tour was ending in San Diego as the last headline show for Avatar Country, which represents our country and the world. He said that they are so thankful yet sad and “people like us on stage in Avatar Country… it was a weird album, with open borders and truth of the King. It was a love letter to heavy metal and a time when we stopped cutting our hair and all about having fun and doing something funny for us”… all 5 of them. Avatar Country was all about the King and the journey and thanks to fans it was fun. Fans and Avatar alike belong together and it doesn’t matter looking like a freakshow. They then ended the set with a special encore of “Smells Like a Freakshow”… so apropos to this very special night!

These bands are a must see so be sure to catch them when they are in a town near you. Check out their websites for current tour information and additional details:

“As we’ve stated in the past, we are reaching the end of the road for the Avatar Country saga,” says vocalist Johannes Eckerström. “And if you want to see us in all our Royal Glory in tribute to the King, this might very well be your last chance. We will make sure to go out with a bang!”

The band is thrilled to announce that the legendary singer/songwriter and producer Devin Townsend will serve as direct support performing a full acoustic set. Southern California’s Dance With The Dead and Atlanta mainstays ’68 will open the show.
“This tour is extra special to us and me personally as we’ve not only amazing hand-picked openers to showcase what we think deserves more eyes and ears in ’68 and Dance with the Dead, but we also have the extreme pleasure and privilege to share the stage with Devin Townsend at an exciting phase of his career.”
“I am a life long fan, and I genuinely feel that people who appreciate our willingness to experiment and walk that extra mile to be true to our vision and integrity have Mr. Townsend to thank for a lot. It will be a bucket list experience for me, and I hope we get to share it with as many people as possible.”
The 2019 trek across the U.S. will be the first time the band has toured in America since they went out with TRIVIUM on the “The Sin and the Sentence World Tour” last October.

General on-sale will be available this Friday, February 08, 2019. A special pre-sale will be available on Thursday, February 07, 2019, via Blabbermouth (password: BBM2019) and Revolver Magazine (Revolver2019).

Avatar released their seventh, and most Royal, full length, Avatar Country last year via Entertainment One. The LP debuted at #2 Indie, #4 Hard Music, #8 Rock, and #25 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

Critics praised the release as well. NEW NOISE MAGAZINE said Avatar Country was“the culmination of the group’s evolution into a singular powerhouse, a trip into the heart of what makes metal so distinctively powerful.”

LOUDWIRE called the opening track “Glory To Our King” sounds like “it could’ve come straight off of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club, a warm and over the top introduction to the rest of the album.” And finally, METAL INJECTION called Avatar Country “a wonderful ride.”

“Avatar has only gotten weirder, wackier and more ambitious, not only pushing the over-the-top, operatic boundaries of their sound but also creating a whole imaginary ‘country’ in the process.” REVOLVER

“The Swedish oddballs have risen to the challenge of creating a follow-up that’s just as barmy.” METAL HAMMER

“‘Avatar Country’ is a wonderful ride.” METAL INJECTION

“This royalty-themed release features plenty of the usual theatrics and bombast from the Gothenburg quintet, but with stronger songwriting to shore up their conceptual side.”ROCK SOUND

“If Avatar Country isn’t recognized as a multi-faceted metallic gem, forget government: Your current hard-rock tastes might need to be overthrown.” ALTPRESS
