TORTUGA MUSIC FESTIVAL CELEBRATES COUNTRY MUSIC AND MORE
IN SUNNY FORT LAUDERDALE

11TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL HOSTS PERFORMANCES FROM LAINEY WILSON, HARDY, JASON ALDEAN, BRET MICHAELS, MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD, TEDDY SWIMS AND ASHLEY MCBRYDE, AMONGST OTHERS

To Date, Rock The Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival Has Raised
Nearly 5 Million For Ocean Conservation Efforts

Rock The Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival, in partnership with Live Nation, hosted fans for a weekend of unmatched entertainment featuring headliners Lainey Wilson, HARDY and Jason Aldean. Praised for having an “eclectic” lineup that is “deep in talent” (Sun Sentinel), the 11th annual festival brought over 40 artists ranging from country’s hottest new stars like Bailey Zimmerman and CMA Award winning Group of the Year Old Dominion to icons like Bret Michaels, Boyz II Men and TLC.

On Friday, the Sunset Stage kicked off Tortuga right with performances from Shwayze, Boys II Men, Teddy Swims and Ashley McBryde. On the Main Stage, Warren Zeiders invited Teddy Swims to perform a special rendition of “Tennessee Whiskey.” Shortly after, Turnpike Troubadours’ driving country-rock welcomed in the first scenic sunset of the festival. A crowd favorite, Lainey Wilson closed opening night with her signature “Bell Bottom Country” sound, belting her GRAMMY-winning hits as fans danced along under the warm night sky.

The uplifting energy continued on Saturday with nearly 20 performances set against a sunny backdrop and a sea of fans. Appropriately, Michael Franti & Spearhead filled the main stage with their vibrant ‘sounds of sunshine,’ setting the tone for Old Dominion, whose performance elicited enthusiastic sing-alongs from the crowd. Meanwhile, multi-platinum entertainer Russell Dickerson brought his “unstoppable energy” (E! News) to the Sunset Stage and was followed by rock icon Bret Michaels. Singing Poison classics like “Your Mama Don’t Dance” and “Nothing But a Good Time,” Michaels surprised fans by inviting Cooper Alan up for a “Sweet Home Alabama” duet. HARDY closed the night and pushed genre boundaries with his one-of-a-kind blend of nu-metal and country on the Main Stage.

Rounding out the sunny, star-studded weekend, fans at the Sunset Stage were able to experience the carefree songs of the Wheeland Brothers, much-anticipated 90s legends TLC and country-folk singer Charles Wesley Godwin. The Main Stage opened with DIAMOND-selling superstar Brian Kelley, followed by Bailey Zimmerman delivering an energetic set proving why he’s “Country’s Biggest New Star” (Grammy.com). ACM Artist of the Decade Jason Aldean followed, closing out the 2024 festival with hits like “My Kinda Party” and “Lights Come On” featuring Bailey Zimmerman.

The weekend also showcased the next generation of country music featured on the festival’s first year of the Next From Nashville stage, giving attendees a chance to discover the genre’s hottest acts including Sadie Bass, Annie Bosko, The Castellows, Kolby Cooper, Logan Crosby, Hannah Ellis, Dylan Gossett, HunterGirl, Greylan James, Meg McRee, Peytan Porter, Josh Ross, Austin Snell, Anne Wilson and Stephen Wilson Jr.

Since its inception in 2013, Tortuga has raised nearly $5 million supporting 100+ nonprofits dedicated to saving our oceans and marine life as well as groundbreaking research in the United States, Bahamas, South Africa and Asia. Last year, the festival received the prestigious 2023 Bronze Stevie Award for Sustainability Leadership in the US and Canada at the 20th Annual International Business Awards. Sustainability at the 2024 Tortuga Music Festival focused on three major goals involving all departments – “Reduce, Rethink and Restore” – to reduce CO2 emissions and waste going to landfills, to explore green products and technologies, and to implement policies to protect Marine ecosystems and support ocean conservation efforts. Rock The Ocean’s on-site Conservation Village gives festival guests the opportunity to learn more about where a portion of the proceeds from their passes go and how they can help make a difference. This is a re-post from our family travel blog, written in 2005.

Lost my tunes

When we lost the external hard drive, we lost all the mp3’s we had ripped over the past year – most of the CD’s are still at home, so it is rebuildable when we get back, and we have about 20 CD’s we burned in the van, so we are not at a total loss of music.

I am however, at a loss when it comes to listening to something when I am working on the computer. So, I joined the new Napster for a 2 week free trial. I can listen to everything they have, and download most of that, but if you try to burn a CD, it makes you pay for it, and you have to still be subscribing to do that, since other players only check their own sites to see if you have paid. I will probably just leave the files on here and just listen to them on the laptop.

So, when you lose all your tunes, and don’t have a 300-gig hard drive to store them on anymore, you can’t just download every single album you love. You have to have a plan. I settled on getting some newer ones I never had, to check them out. They are:
Springsteen – Devils & Dust – I never like his acoustic stuff as much as full band, but so far it sounds pretty good.
Green Day – American Idiot – this is a great album and I never really liked them before
Pato Banton – Collections – this is some great reggae from someone you probably have never heard of – he is a family favorite
Audioslave – Audioslave – this just plain rules
Bon Jovi – 100,000,000 Bon Jovi fans can’t be wrong – bunch of extra songs they never put out and some demos – 4 disc set, have not listened yet
A Perfect Circle – Emotive/Mer De Noms – dig their sound, have not listened yet
The Darkness – Permission to Land – curious to see how good it is
System of a Down – Toxicity – dig the singles, curious about the rest, new tune is great by the way
Three Days Grace – some good singles, hope the rest is good
Bunch of country songs – mostly pretty new – add some variety to the mix

So, the other ones I decided to get are my favorite kind of music. 80’s rock, hair metal, call it whatcha want – it’s all music to me. I picked my favorite 21 albums and downloaded them. Nappy did not have Motley Crue – Shout at the Devil. Here they are, with 3 best songs:

* Bon Jovi – Slippery When Wet – Wanted: Dead or Alive, You Give Love a Bad Name, Livin’ on a Prayer
* Cinderella – Long Cold Winter – Coming Home, Gypsy Road, Don’t Know What You’ve Got (til its gone)
* Damn Yankees – Damn Yankees – Coming of Age, Come Again, High Enough
* Def Leppard – Pyromania – Foolin’, Photograph, Rock of Ages
* Dokken – Under Lock and Key – In My Dreams, Unchain the Night, The Hunter (hearing this live in July 2000 clinched Hunter’s name for us)
* Extreme – Pornograffiti – Get the Funk Out, More Than Words, Hole Hearted
* Europe – The Final Countdown – The Final Countdown, Carrie, Rock the Night (the boys new favorite song)
* Kix – Blow My Fuse – Cold Blood, Don’t Close Your Eyes, Red Light Green Light TNT
* Lynch Mob – Wicked Sensation – Wicked Sensation, River of Love, Through These Eyes
* Quiet Riot – Metal Health – Bang Your Head, Cum On Feel The Noize, Slick Black Cadillac
* Ratt – Reach For The Sky – Way Cool Jr., I Want a Woman, What’s It Gonna Be
* Scorpions – Love At First Sting – Rock You Like A Hurricane, Coming Home, Still Loving You
* Skid Row – Skid Row – 18 & Life, I Remember You, Youth Gone Wild ** Napster does not have these 3 songs, only the rest of the album, so that required a change to:
* Skid Row – Slave to the Grind – Monkey Business, Wasted Time, (You can’t be king of the world when you’re) Slave to the Grind
* Steelheart – Steelheart – I’ll Never Let You Go, Everybody Loves Eileen, Love Ain’t Easy
* Tesla – The Great Radio Controversy – Love Song, Hang Tough, The Way It Is
* Twisted Sister – Stay Hungry – I Wanna Rock, We’re Not Gonna Take It, The Price
* Van Halen – 5150 – Dreams, Love Walks In, Why Can’t This Be Love
* White Lion – Pride – Wait, When The Children Cry, Lady of the Valley
* Whitesnake – Whitesnake – Here I Go Again, Still of the Night, Is This Love
* Winger – Winger – Seventeen, Headed For A Heartbreak, Madalaine
* Zebra – Zebra – Who’s Behind the Door?, Tell Me What You Want, Take Your Fingers From My Hair

Day 3 was Sunday, April 16th. It was another hot one, but clouds kept creeping in as the day turned to night. Tens of thousands of country music fans showed up in force to live out the “No Shoes Nation” lifestyle romanticized about in Kenny Chesney’s songs. Despite it being the third and final day of the festival, the crowd showed up early and was full of energy, with the weekend’s strongest lineup to look forward to.

Niko Moon at Tortuga ©2023 Johnnie Crow Photos

Kenny Chesney, Jake Owen, Niko Moon, Ashley Cooke, Shane Profitt and Dee Jay Silver kept the Allegiant Main Stage rocking all day long, from the paved VIP area right through to the sandy General Admission side. Jake Owen and Niko Moon are full of so much energy and joy on stage, that they could not sit still for a moment. Both will likely be headlining this festival in the near future. South Florida’s own Ashley Cooke shared a story about standing on the beach as a teenager at the very first Tortuga Music Festival, watching Kenny Chesney perform. On this day, she not only opened for Chesney on the main stage, she also performed a duet with him during his set, crushing ‘When The Sun Goes Down’. Dreams do come true when you work hard and believe in yourself.

Kylie Morgan at Tortuga ©2023 Johnnie Crow Photos

Justin Moore, Collie Buddz, Kidd G, Nate Smith, Kylie Morgan and DJ Rock played the Sunset Stage presented by Visible by Verizon. Once again, the second main stage offered the most variety, and fans of each act had the chance to get up close to enjoy great songs from artists with their own unique style.

Alana Springsteen at Tortuga ©2023 Johnnie Crow Photos

Megan Moroney, Alana Springsteen, Frank Ray, Mackenzie Carpenter and George Birge showed their skills on the Next From Nashville stage presented by Bacardi. This tent stage provides a chance to escape the sun and enjoy the talents of rising stars. There was a ton of talent on display this weekend, and some of these artists will be playing the main stage in the future.

The organizers of Rock The Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival clearly know what they are doing. The original schedule allows for a buffer in case of bad weather. Kenny Chesney hit the stage earlier than planned, in hopes of finishing before the lightning storm got anywhere close. Unfortunately, about 30 minutes into his set, as he was playing ‘Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven’, we were forced to evacuate due to dangerous weather approaching. Everyone left in an orderly fashion, hoping the storm would pass quickly. When word came down at 9:30 that Chesney would resume playing at 10:00, the majority of festival goers made it back in to see another hour of hits. Kenny kept things moving, playing mostly upbeat songs to get in as many as possible before the 11:00 noise curfew. No Shoes Nation was ecstatic to be able to sing along and dance with their toes in the sand.

Day 2 was Saturday, April 15th, a spectacularly hot and sunny day. Tens of thousands of country music fans showed up early to hit the sands and hear the tunes. Fans were dressed in their best beachwear, with a splash of concert gear and the occasional costume.

Shania Twain at Tortuga ©2023 Johnnie Crow Photos

Shania Twain, Carly Pearce, Jameson Rodgers, Brittney Spencer, Alexandra Kay and Dee Jay Silver shone as brightly as the sun on the Allegiant Main Stage. Shania Twain played a brilliant set featuring several joyful new songs, some acoustic covers and all of the many hits fans were delighted to dance and sing along to. Her main theme for the night was joy and celebrating what makes each person happy. Judging by the roar of the crowd, her music is one of the things that makes millions happy. Carly Pearce performed earlier on the main stage, and she took the opportunity to thank Shania for inspiring her, and so many others, to write their own songs, make their own rules and manifest their own destiny.

The Wallflowers, Dylan Scott, Mike., Tropidelic, Corey Kent and DJ Rock played the Sunset Stage presented by Visible by Verizon. This second main stage also hosted the entertaining Dating Game, where Tortuga fans competed for seat upgrades and a shot at love. This was an eclectic mix of artists, with a different set of fans showing up for each set.

Tyler Booth at Tortuga ©2023 Johnnie Crow Photos

Erin Kinsey, Tyler Booth, Chayce Beckham, Dylan Marlowe and Chase McDaniel graced the Next From Nashville stage presented by Bacardi. This stage was placed under a tent in the middle of the grounds, providing a nice stopping point between main stages. This intimate setting provided a great opportunity to get up close and personal with some rising stars.

With the sun blazing, Saturday was a great day to explore the festival grounds. VIP ticketholders had cabanas and a pool to cool off in. General Admission fans could explore the many vendor tents and activations, each offering a mini oasis amongst the packed beachside setting. There were many unique beverage choices available to cool down and fuel up.

Iration completed a 3 date “Coastin’ at the Drive-In” tour at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, California on December 5, 2020. It was an especially chilly evening for Southern California, but that did not stop the island vibes.

The show was part of the Concerts In Your Car series, presented by Subaru. A high square stage was erected in the middle of the parking lot, with screens facing in each direction. Cars were parked on all sides. Fans could sit in their car, or stand directly next to it. It was a strange scene, with people huddled up in winter clothing and blankets, in beach chairs or sitting in their flatbeds. The entire evening, cars drove the perimeter of the fairgrounds, navigating through the 1 million holiday light display known as Holidays In Your Car.

Iration released their 7th album, “Coastin'”, in July. It is another great album from the band, and it includes several features. One of those is Eli Mac, who sang on “Guava Lane”. She was on hand this night to perform the song, and it was one of the highlights of the show.

Iration is looking forward to returning to the stage on a steadier basis next year. Check out their Facebook page or https://www.irationmusic.com/ for the latest news.

New Album Coastin’ Available Everywhere
Reggae-influenced alternative rock band Iration has announced three Southern California drive-in shows. The special “Coastin’ At The Drive-In” run comes to Anaheim on December 3rd, Ventura on December 4th and Del Mar (San Diego) on December 5th. The socially distanced live shows will mark the first in-person concerts the Hawaiian-bred, California-based quintet has performed since the release of their latest album Coastin’, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart upon its release this summer. Tickets for “Coastin’ At The Drive-In” are on sale now. One ticket is required per vehicle, with a five-passenger maximum. PRESS HERE for details and to purchase.
“We’re excited to announce that we’ll be playing 3 live drive-in shows around Southern California to bring you some last-minute vibes before the holiday season,” shares lead singer/guitarist Micah Pueschel. “Let’s gooo!!!”
Coastin’, the band’s seventh full-length studio album available via their own Three Prong Records, is a 13-song musical journey showcasing Iration’s distinct hybrid style of music blending rock and reggae with elements of pop and newly incorporated R&B, funk and jazz sounds, set against meaningful and personal lyrics that push positivity, good vibes and good feelings into the world. PRESS HERE to listen. Coastin’, which has been receiving high praise from critics and fans, features the singles “Right Here Right Now” featuring Eric Rachmany from Rebelution and Stick Figure, “Move Forward,” “Coastin’” and “Chill Out” along with guest appearances from Common Kings and Eli-Mac. Coastin’ was produced and co-written by David Manzoor (Lupe Fiasco, Cam, Method Man) and engineered by Will Brierre (Imagine Dragons, Chris Isaak) and features an impressive blend of song and mix engineers including Jimmy Douglass (Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z), Mark Needham (Fleetwood Mac, The Killers, Saint Motel), Niko Marzouca & Rob Marks (Eminem, Usher, Rebelution) and Lars Stalfors (Cold War Kids, Foster The People, Massive Attack), who helped make each song unique and fresh.
Since their formation over 15 years ago, Iration (Micah Pueschel [lead vocals/guitar], Adam Taylor [bass], Joe Dickens [drums], Cayson Peterson [keyboard/synth], Micah Brown [guitar/vocals]) has racked up more than 1 billion total streams with multiple songs featured on alternative rock radio stations across the country, including The World Famous KROQ in Los Angeles. Previous albums Hotting Up [2015] and Automatic [2013] both peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums Chart with Iration [2018], Double Up [2016] and Time Bomb [2010] each reaching #2 on the chart. The celebrated five-piece, known for their vivacious live performances and relentless touring, has brought their aloha spirit to festivals nationwide such as Lollapalooza, Hangout, BottleRock, SXSW, Life Is Beautiful and Outside Lands as well as special events for the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Bernie Sanders. In addition to their sold-out headlining shows across the country, including last summer’s massive amphitheater outing, Iration has also toured and appeared alongside Slightly Stoopid, Rebelution, Sublime With Rome, UB40, Dirty Heads and many more throughout their impressive and growing career.

NIVA Save Our Stages
Because of YOUR incredible support, we are excited to announce that a new piece of legislation was introduced, called the SAVE OUR STAGES Act. The bill, introduced by Senator Klobuchar (D-MN) and Senator Cornyn (R-TX), is a bipartisan effort and would provide a lifeline to independent venues, promoters, festivals, and more.

We are so thankful for your support and are asking for your help once again. Please head to SaveOurStages.com and sign a new letter to let your representatives know you support NIVA, the Save Our Stages Act, and the RESTART Act.

With well over one million letters sent already, progress is being made. Now we need to let Congress know the SOS and RESTART Acts must pass. They are set to vote within the next week, so please, take the time to send another letter today.

As you know, the letter is already completed for you, just add your information, customize if you’d like, and send it!

Tell Congress To Save Our Stages
Without inclusion in the stimulus bill that is currently being debated, more independent venues, festivals, and promoters will permanently close. Please tell your reps that support for independent venues and promoters must be included.

If you’ve written once, twice, or three times already – we cannot thank you enough. Please write in again, it could not be more urgent.

Make your voices heard-it’s quick, easy, and free. Ask your legislators to support and cosponsor S. 4258/H.R. 7806 the Save Our Stages Act & S. 3814/H.R. 7481, the RESTART Act, which would ensure the survival of independent venues, festivals and promoters across the nation.

America’s independent music clubs and theaters are at death’s door.

Right now, there are no fewer than three bills in front of Congress, all of which could help the live music industry survive the catastrophic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Congress’s last day in session is August 7. The session could theoretically be extended, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has stated he will not do that.

The bills are designated as RESTART, Save Our Stages (a.k.a. “SOS”), and ENCORES (Entertainment New Credit Opportunity for Relief & Economic Sustainability).

We’re a part of the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), which was formed to try to save independent venues and promoters across the country. We were the first to close and will be the last to fully reopen.

Without support from Congress, 90% of NIVA’s independent venues, festivals & promoters across America say they will be forced to close their doors forever. Congress will be voting THIS MONTH, so we need your help NOW.  Go to www.SaveOurStages.com to send a letter to Congress. The form for the letter is already filled in, you just have to add your name.  It takes less than 30 seconds.

Without inclusion in the next stimulus bill, this might be the last chance for your favorite independent venues, festivals and promoters. Tell your reps that life support for independent venues and promoters must be included.

Even if you’ve written once, please make your voices heard now,  it’s quick, easy and free.  Ask your legislators to support and cosponsor S. 3814/H.R. 7481, the RESTART Actintroduced by Senators Young and Bennet in the Senate and Representatives Golden and Kelly in the House, which would ensure the survival of independent venues, festivals and promoters across the nation.

The world seems to be shifting perspective, and reconsidering assumptions. There are many rock bands who you have sang along to, banged your head to, moshed to, and crowd-surfed to. Several of them have been attempting to educate and enlighten you in the process. Were you listening, really listening? Do you pay attention to the lyrics? Do you research the incidents, experiences and circumstances that led to their artistic expression? Now is the time to revisit some recent albums, but with a new perspective. In the spirit of education and empathy, here are our Five Fave Rock Albums That Matter Right Now.

5. Body Count feat. Ice-T – Bloodlust – 2017 (and Carnivore – 2020)

Body Count ©2020 Johnnie Crow Photos

Ice-T has spent his career in rap and rock speaking loudly about social issues, particularly police violence against the black community. On his most recent albums, he broadens that focus, realizing that those in power work diligently to categorize, divide and antagonize the majority of the people they pretend to rule. These songs speak directly to the frustration, desperation and anger that so many have faced for so long. He combines rock vocals with spoken word and actual media clips to drive his points home.

Anywhere, any time
They shoot first and ask questions last
Could be yours, could be mine
And then they point the finger at you

  • Body Count “Point The Finger”

4. Nonpoint – X – 2018

Nonpoint ©2020 Johnnie Crow Photos

Nonpoint is another band who have touched on social issues throughout their career. Vocalist Elias Soriano is more poet than lyricist, and he makes his points in a more subtle and general way than Ice-T does. As in all great art, the consumer can draw their own impressions from the work, and sometimes songs take on new meanings as your personal experiences and world view broaden. Nonpoint recently recorded and released a new single during the quarantine, honoring all those who risk their own life to save strangers, “Remember Me (A Frontlines Tribute)”.

There’s a name for all of this
A shame in all of this
Done watchin’ in disbelief
Done turnin’ the other cheek
Doesn’t seem right to me
But maybe this is how it’s all supposed to be?

You don’t really want to fix this

    • Nonpoint “Fix This”

3. P.O.D. – Circles – 2018

P.O.D. ©2020 Johnnie Crow Photos

P.O.D. is a band from Chula Vista in San Diego which has been talking about the American experience for 2 decades. They have always maintained their religious faith and incorporate that into their lyrics. While speaking truth about the darkest days and experiences of life, they offer hope and optimism amidst the heartache.

So who are you to say what life is like, that life is good?
And I bet whoever said it never walked up in my hood
So I wish you would, and maybe you should
You should discover what is missing, since you misunderstood

  • P.O.D. – “Fly Away”

2. Fire From The Gods – American Sun – 2019 (and Narrative – 2016)

Fire From The Gods ©2020 Johnnie Crow Photos

Fire From The Gods combines rock with reggae, a music form that is synonymous with social injustice and pleads for healing. Vocalist Akil “AJ” Channer is a brilliant lyricist and vocalist who speaks truth to power, while searching for answers and common ground. The acknowledgement of mistakes and existence of issues are important first steps towards working for peaceful and equitable solutions.

How can we exist in a constant state of crisis
Society in conflict
All the ignorance betrays a weakness
Too much pride to admit there’s a sickness
Vacant emotions
Like walking corpses

Something’s gotta change
Right now

  • Fire From The Gods “Right Now”

1. Fever 333 – Strength In Numb333rs – 2019

Fever 333 ©2020 Johnnie Crow Photos

Fever 333 is a project started in 2017 by vocalist Jason Aalon Butler, guitarist Stephen Harrison and drummer Aric Improta, with writing and production from Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. The band intentionally formed to provide a soundtrack to the protests that have been building over time, and are now dominating the world. Their 2018 EP “Made an America” and 2019 full length debut “Strength In Numbers” focus on the raw emotions from a life growing up in Inglewood, California, watching family and friends struggle against the systemic oppression and racism that have once again boiled over nationally. Their musical style is based in punk rock and hip-hop. The lyrics are cutting and emotional, and should make people feel uncomfortable. The band recently released a single “Supremacy”, which they debuted during a live demonstration dubbed “Long Live The Innocent”, which can be seen below. All proceeds benefit Black Lives Matter & Minnesota Freedom Fund.

They gotta isolate, they gotta segregate this
Just to keep us down, to keep us broken down, to keep us on the streets
Another body laying on the floor now
Tell everybody they better take their tone out
When talking about it, and everything they saw
No justice, no peace, we at war with the law

Festival producer Danny Wimmer Presents has released the following update about their 2020 music festivals:

There are no pre-existing guidelines for what festivals should be doing during this unprecedented time.  Like the rest of the music industry, we continue to assess new information and make the best-educated decisions possible.  We know you have been anxious for updates from us and we are at a point where we can answer many of your questions about how each of our festivals may be affected by COVID-19.

We are crushed to say that Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple are being canceled due to the governmental restrictions on mass gatherings.  We respect these directives and recognize they are in the best interest of the greater good, as well as the health and safety of our fans, musicians, partners, and staff.  Before accepting this fate, we worked really hard to try to reschedule the festivals.  Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts, venue availabilities and a number of other factors out of our control made postponing impossible.  Make no mistake, each of these festivals will return in May 2021 bigger and stronger than ever!

Let’s be perfectly clear — FULL REFUNDS will be available to everyone who has purchased passes to Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple.

In addition to offering refunds, many of you have said that you would prefer to apply your 2020 purchases towards next year or exchange your pass for another one of our 2020 festivals.   Based on your feedback, we are offering pass holders three options:

(1) Full refund

(2) Apply your pass to 2021

(3) Exchange your pass for another 2020 DWP festival

Complete details will be emailed out to our pass holders within 72 hours.

We also know that you are anxious to find out who is playing Louder Than Life, Bourbon & Beyond and Aftershock.  Please understand that here at DWP, we’ve been debating when it is appropriate to announce our lineups and put passes on sale for our remaining festivals.  Our heads say we need to hold off on these announcements until we have more certainty in the world.  But our hearts say the world needs positivity and some things to look forward to.  We’ve been paying close attention to what you are saying on our social media and two themes consistently emerge.  First, you do want something to remind you of the better days ahead.  Second, times are financially hard for all of us.

While we want nothing more than to give you the full lineups for Aftershock, Bourbon & Beyond and Louder Than Life, we just don’t feel like it’s the right time.  But we did hear you loud and clear that you want some good news.  And good news we have.  We are adding a Thursday to 2020 Louder Than Life and, are you ready . . . the newly added Thursday will be headlined by none other than Metallica.  Yes, Metallica is back!  We simply couldn’t accept that after all we’ve gone through together this year that there would be no Metallica performance East of the Mississippi.  And Metallica agrees!

To assist you in the current financial climate, all current pass holders for Louder Than Life will be given the 4th day FREE.  We are also deferring the next installment payment on the layaway plan for a month.  And we will leave open the refund option for Louder Than Life through Friday, March 27 in case you need your money back.

To try to make passes a little more affordable right now, anyone who wants to buy a pass for Louder Than Life can reserve a pass for $1 down per pass, with payments not starting until May 3 and split up evenly in May, June, July and August.

We have also arranged for many of the bands from Sonic, Epicenter and Rockville to play at Louder Than Life and will be announcing that as soon as we feel appropriate.  Because we were not able to reschedule the Spring festivals, we want Louder Than Life to be an inclusive celebration of all of those festivals.  It’s not a perfect solution, but these are imperfect times. It is our sincere hope that we are all able to heal together with massive celebrations this Fall.

While we don’t know if this pandemic will end in time for Hometown Rising, Louder Than Life, Bourbon & Beyond or Aftershock, rest assured that all passes will be refunded in the unfortunate event that any of these festivals are prevented from happening because of COVID-19.

We want to thank you for your continued loyalty and support.  We are blessed to have such an amazing Festival Family, and together, as a community, we will get through this.  Please stay safe and look out for each other.

With Love,

Team DWP

As my first experience in San Diego, I got to be part of the inaugural Wonderfront Music + Arts Festival which took place November 22-24, 2019. Wonderfront was a 3-day Music and Arts festival along the beautiful downtown San Diego waterfront. This massive festival extended from the Broadway Port Pier all the way to Hilton Bayfront Park. Now, if you’re an out-of-towner like me, you had no idea how far that really was until you tried walking it from stage to stage to see bands. Lucky for me I was with someone who knew their way around, but we still had a hard time getting where we needed to be when we wanted to be there. There was a lot that we got to see but also a lot we had to miss with so many things being scheduled at the same time or being so far apart that you just had to choose something closer. The plus to that was, I got to see new bands that maybe I wouldn’t have otherwise.

Wonderfront had over 100 Artists and more than 10 stages for the 3 day event, with a myriad of genres to choose from. There was Jazz, Reggae, Rap, Hip Hop, Punk, Dance and even Comedy. Not only did the festival have a plethora of musical acts, it had silent discos, arts, crafts, skateboarding, local food fair, craft beverages, jet boat rides, sunset cruises, and yacht parties. There was so much going on that the fun didn’t have to end when the festival finished at night. They had offical after parties at local clubs and on ships. So if you weren’t done enjoying the scene you didn’t have to be.

Day 1 started late Friday afternoon, and featured performances by Aminé, Bad Suns, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, CNCO, Cofresi, Don Omar, Duckwrth, EarthGang, Earthless, Gioli & Assia, Lil Baby, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Miguel, Parquet Courts, Pepper, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Schizophonics, X Ambassadors, Ximena Sarinana, Banda Tierra Brava, Los Crecidos, and Seis en Linea.

Day 2 got things going before noon on Saturday, and included sets by Migos, Big Gigantic, J.I.D, Bob Moses, Bryce Vine, Common Kings, Flatbush Zombies, MGMT, Nicky Jam, Pennywise, Phantogram, Reykon, Slightly Stoopid, The Knocks, Thievery Corporation, TOkiMONSTA, Vince Staples, Zion y Lennox, Jhay Cortez, Alice Merton, Allie X, BoomBox, Z-Trip, Fakear, Goldfish, Grandson, The Vandals, Wild Belle, Andy Frasco and The U.N., Capyac, Chesca, Henry & the Invisibles, Jordan Hollywood, Marie Monti, Steve Fulton Music, The Routine, Wild Prxfits, Grandma, Jesse Baez, and Brewfish.

Day 3 was another all day affair capped off by Guitar Legends 3, a partnership with America Salutes You – an all star benefit concert to support Military, Veterans, First Responders and their families which was recorded for future broadcast. The show was led by Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), joined by George Thorogood, Nancy Wilson (Heart), Steve Lukather (Toto), Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers), Charlie Starr (Blackberry Smoke) and Kenny Aronoff and the LA All-Star Band. Other perfomers were Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Los Angeles Azules, 3LAU, Banda Los Sebastianes, Bas, Big Wild, Busta Rhymes, Grace Vanderwaal, Hippo Campus, Jonas Blue, Lil Dicky, Los Tucanes De Tijuana, Manchester Orchestra, Moon Taxi, Suicidal Tendencies, Tribal Seeds, Tyga, Walk The Moon, X, Khea, Broods, The English Beat, Japanese Breakfast, Z-Trip, Chrome Sparks, Diamante Electrico, Donna Missal, Exmag, Ghost Light, Victoria La Mala, Haddon Cord, SoDown, SunSquabi, Cydeways, Glades, Donavon Frankenreiter, Rob Machado & Friends.

Wonderfront and San Diego have an exciting and interesting festival here. San Diego makes the perfect back drop for this very diverse and spread out event and I look forward to seeing how they improve the event for 2020.
