QUEENSRŸCHE at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York on October 18, 2022.
Judas Priest is celebrating 50 Metal Years, and they invited their friends in Queensryche to join the party. Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson, Todd LaTorre, Mike Stone and Casey Grillo kicked off the night with a shot of adrenaline straight into the crowd’s collective cerebral cortex.
Long time fans were treated to an opening barrage of early bangers – “Queen of the Reich”, “Warning” and “En Force”. The current lineup brings a renewed sense of energy and power to these killer tunes.
Queensryche is far from a nostalgia act. To support the release of their outstanding new studio album, ‘Digital Noise Alliance’, QUEENSRŸCHE have dropped an epic video clip for “Behind The Walls”:
This was the only new song played at the show, which is unfortunate only in the sense that it would have been great to hear more of the new material along with the classics. Todd LaTorre breathes life into a back catalog which had been previously missing from shows, and his contributions to 4 recent albums of material has been crucial in reviving a legendary act.
The set continued with a fan favorite deep cut “Screaming in Digital” and the all-time hits “Empire”, “Operation: Mindcrime” and “Eyes of a Stranger”. The only problem with the set was being over far too soon.
Guitarist Michael Wilton continues to express joy as he pushes boundaries of the Queensryche sound. This incarnation continues to grow as songwriters and soar beyond any past formulas for success, and ‘Digital Noise Alliance’ is their best album yet. “Whip” was the creator of most of the best songs of the early days, and here he bangs out riffs and solos that elevate the soul.
Bassist and backing vocalist Eddie Jackson is the DNA of Queensryche, and his consistent excellence on the bass and microphone provides the common thread that has drawn in and held a passionate fanbase for 4 decades.
Drummer Casey Grillo has been touring with the band for 5 years, and this is his first appearance on an album. He brings a fresh style to the mix, continuing the stellar legacy created by Scott Rockenfield.
Guitarist Mike Stone rejoins the fold this time around, showcasing his creativity and freedom of expression, breaking the mold established by Chris DeGarmo and embarking on new sonic landscapes.
